Love this song. I know Sandy Denny wrote it. Judy Collin’s does a beautiful rendition of it, too. The first time I heard it was in a movie called, A walk on the moon with Diane Lane and Viggo Mortenson.

I so loved this song when I was a teenager, always looking out the window in class or looking up into the sky out walking or delivering my news papers. Who would have known I would spend 28 years in the US Air Force.

I heard Judy Collins's version first, and liked it. I love Denny's.

The best version is on the album she recorded with the Strawbs ,, All Our Own Work' which languished unreleased until 1973! On it she played the song straight/solo, strings then being added. The solo version is available on her all-solo-performance compilation 'I've Always Kept A Unicorn'. The first album she did with Fairport 'What We Did On Our Holidays' is my favourite of the 3 Sandy/fairport albums-bizarre it isn't mentioned.

Thank you for the information. I was under the impression that Sandy died of an overdose. Being an eternal Sandy fan, it means a lot that she died by natural causes. Thank you very much.

What a superb voice. So easy, no straining to reach the notes. Such a sad loss.

I'm a classical music nut but this is just the most beautiful song I know. We played it at my mother's wake in her memory - no idea if she knew it but it seemed so appropriate

Unbelievably Sandy was only 19 years old when she wrote this. It improves with age, both the age of the song and even more the age of the listener. I first heard it when she sang with The Strawbs back in 1968, and now I am 71 the song resonates all the more.

I'm 28 and hearing this music for the first time after the version with the Strawbs played on the radio. So much heart and depth and a blissful melody belying the contemplative lyrics. I am not surprised to read that she was compared to Joni Mitchell in her time... Amazing!!
