@akolyteinstruments what kind of hammer tool is that that you are using for tuning? Ive been trying to tune mine with a small rubber mallet but it doesnt really allow me to get enough force to make larger adjustments. Could you perhaps provide a tip on where i could get a hammer like that?

@@giordanpogioli9372 do you mean the hammer or the mallet? The hammer is a rhythmic steel tuning hammer, but any hammer that fits in the instrument will work - the mallet is just a steel pan bass mallet

@Acolyteinstruments yeah i was referring to the oddly shaped hammer head you have there. I've been looking for something short (so it fits inside comfortably) but with a heavy head that can effect enough change in the tuning and not be so loud like metal on metal. Wondered if it would be easier to separate the halves of the handpan, do the tuning and reglue them? If I wasn't living so far away from tuners like yourself I would just send it in for tuning work.

Has making Handpans informed your making of gongs in any way, or the other way around?

@@peteralexanian1460 absolutely 💯 after dealing with handpans all these years I have a very good grasp on how steel moves and how you can manipulate it for tuning - while building gongs is definitely different (and much harder physically) the fundamental concept is very similar - essentially gongs are just individual handpan notes, and the rim acts as the interstitial does on a handpan 😁 good question! 👍👍

You know how you sometimes, completely out of the blue, come to think of an old song, artist or creator that used to be one of your favourites ? I did that today while remembering how hyped i was to finally recieve my Diablo 3 Collectors Edition that i had ordered years before, as soon as it was announced. And so of course i thought of a few of my favorite songs from back then, D3 beta, boyfriend and fail. I was sad to see that the awesome guy who made those had just vanished shortly after making them, with his channel banner to this day still saying in all caps: "NEW VIDEOS EVERY MONDAY!" Well there's been a fair few mondays since then with no videos so i thought that maybe life just caught up to him. I've come this far before, just clicked X on the tab and went on with my day but tonight i decided to get digging instead. I found out the guy was actually an actor in a few movies and he's made music for movies but then the trail went cold again. Until i saw something called handpans mentioned. WTF is a handpan and how does that relate to the fond memories from 2012 ?? Then the moment came, i found him! He's actually still around and he is making steel instruments with which he is also making awesome music :D I know this is probably the longest comment to ever comment but this has been an hours long journey through the past and into the present for me and i just wanted to bring you with me for a bit of it, for old times sake. TJM in our hearts forever <3 Now i just have to figure out wth BirgirPall is doing nowadays....

This surreal and serene instrument feedback device reminds me of a divination bowl. Clever idea creating a soothing interactive cymatic tool for everyday household enjoyment! Song choice is bliss too and with a little modular software plugin, one could feed any song into the device and have it transposed and effected into that lower pitch high reverb wave for proper receiving of the Reflecting Pool.
