I would love to sail in a wooden big sailing ship with my friends (and maybe other people too) for a whole week to sing sea shanties and all dressed like pirates while hearing the fantastic stories and learning fun facts of the sea from the captain. Also, learning stuff like preparing the sails, making sailing knots, etc. That would be a great business idea tbh.

It's the only game I truly feel nostalgic about. This brings me back to January 2014: I'm a 1st year med student, just finished the first semester exams, it's a cold and frosty morning, I'm in my PJs, I just finished my breakfast, I put this game on and I play for hours. It rains outside, I feel at peace. It's now October 2024, I'm 10 years older, it's my last year of radiology residency. It's chilly outside, I'm married, both my wife and my one year-old daughter are sleeping right next to me. I feel extreme bliss. I'm grateful for the life I'm having.

Its fascinating to me that AC3 Naval Missions were yhe precursor to Black Flag. I remember playing those missions and honestly wondering if there would ever be a ship game, even an AC version. But then, Black Flag.

So I just discovered that Leave her Johnny wasn't meant to be nostalgic or anything. It was basically a complaint shanty to be sang before going to port for the crew to air out their grievance towards the vessel or captain.

The simple addition of shanties totally change the game for most players. There's no incentive to sail in silence. You'd just fast travel everywhere. But by adding shanties you encourage the player to avoid fast travel and thus encounter valuable ships, perhaps discover dive sites and whaling sites, etc. I could listen to Sean Dagher singing shanties all day.
