UPDATE from S.O.A.R. ~ tough, but necessary decision ~ SOAR feels the Denton home eaglets need to come into rehabilitation because: ** Parents have not been visiting or feeding. ** The eaglets have spent more than 40 hours without food. We are worried about starvation and dehydration. ** The eaglets' bodies are growing many feathers at this stage and need good nutrition to form properly. ** Structure they are in is susceptible to predation, being only 8 feet or so off the ground. ** Plus, we are in line for more storms tonight with heavy rain and wind. Thanks must go to Jen at Iowa Bird Rehabilitation for her efforts! Once these eaglets are stable, have gained weight, and are a bit older, they will join other eagles in the flight pen. We have been successfully rehabbed eagles of all ages and stages for the last 25 years. S.O.A.R. Facebook page: facebook.com/share/12AWiFzuGWPyRzKN/?mibextid=qi2Omg

I totally agree with you! And for those acting like it is a 3 day age difference there are enough eagle cams out there with eaglets with the same age difference that don't have the size difference. I think some of these Moderators and full time viewers/commenters that enjoy watching these all the time waiting for disaster to strike. It's sadistic.

People do enjoy when things go wrong, kinda like a show or something. They actively hope for it, "it doesn't look too well, it's not eating" People love it when death strikes nests and animals.

The bigger eaglet is clearly 3 or maybe even 4 days older than the smaller one. That's a huge difference. He's bigger, stronger, and pushes his way to the front to get most of the food being delivered. Only when there is an abundance of food and both parents feeding them would the little one survive.

This little guy made no attempt to be fed, you have to understand that in the eagle world if you want to eat u have to get front and center..if you notice this guy didn't move. Also I think the mother sensed something wrong with this eaglet...if u take that under consideration the fact that it wasn't crying and trying to maneuver for food it just stayed there and add to the fact that the mother maybe felt like this eaglet sad to say wasn't made to fly then I think it answers the question as if to why the eaglet was left to die

I know it's hard to watch, but please try to understand that Nature works in her own way, in her own time. It's very possible that the parents aren't feeding the smaller chick because they're very new and just don't know how to do this properly yet. Or, they may sense something wrong with the smaller chick and know that they have to focus on the healthy chick to ensure its survival. In this video, the eagle parent is looking at the smaller chick. I'm not an expert by any means, but eagles are pretty smart and aware. It makes me guess that the second option is the correct one. This scenario is being played out all throughout the animal kingdom all over the world. There just aren't any cameras to capture it. If you want to see a pair of amazing, highly successful eagle parents who've had multiple years of healthy chicks (including two, Stars and Sentry, in the nest getting ready to fledge) right now, fly over to the Redding, CA eagle cam. There's a great community there that comes back every year. This is my second year watching and I plan to watch every year. Hope to see you there before the youngins fledge. It's always exciting to see

@@kathsch8966 [Edited] You don't have to understand it if you willfully don't wish to. But, it's very simple: Animals and human animals have different expectations for the parameters and members of their societies. The general animal kingdom do things that human animals don't and vice versa. And yeah, once upon a millennia-long past, humans did leave the sick, the old, the disabled to die because the tribe couldn't care for them And survive at the same time. Early humans were vulnerable and left the unhealthy and incapable to die. It was also the idea of being able to pass along traits that would make their progeny stronger so they would survive the elements, the other animals, enemy tribes; figure out how to get what they needed to feed everyone; and on and on. It's modernity that allows those who would've been left to die in the past to survive today. At the same time, humans barely consider themselves as a part of Nature because we haven't interfaced with it in any serious way for hundreds of generations. Animals, with the exception of domesticated ones, haven't changed all that much. Their instincts and needs remain in tact. So, while we talk to our friend on our iphones, waiting for our UberEATS delivery in our house/apt to arrive before we binge whatever's on our streaming services with our pampered pets sit next to us, wild animals are trying to simply survive the next minute and the one after that. Again you don't have to like it, but that changes the Truth not at all. If this isn't sufficient enough of an explanation, I don't know what else to tell you

@@kathsch8966 I noticed first at 3:15 the bird was trying the best it knew how to chirp for food but if not fed, how can he get the strength to grow? I'm assuming this best was way up high and no one can intervene but had I been involved, it would have broken my heart not to help without knowing something was wrong with the small one. It's just cruel to watch that mom literally starve that baby.

Many people think its mother bird fault especially like this videos..... so I want to ask how should mother know which one she fed before?? Again people will ask its clear through the size but my friends chicks don't hatch with difference in size... so from the beginning one or more chicks don't get the food like others and when time comes the result is the exact video we are watching now

Most bird eggs hatch a few days apart so the first "born" is going to be slightly larger to begin with. Birds can be incredibly mean to their offspring frequently killing them and throwing them out the nest if they think they're not strong enough. How do you think storks got a reputation for "dropping babies"? It's not the pretty picture often seen on new baby cards! They notorious for dropping their smallest over the side of the nest.
