Could you do a tutorial on are you sure by beabadoobee

I might be completely misunderstanding something as I'm relatively new to guitar, but aren't the tabs at 6:25 just wrong?
@musicpolyglot20 күн бұрын
Hi Konstantinos! Thank you for pointing that out, I’ve checked and you are absolutely right! The whole section with the 8ves has one mistake over the whole section. It shows you should be playing strings 2 (b string) and 5 (A string), which is wrong! It should be strings 2 and 4 (D strings). The frets shown are correct. Apologies and thanks for pointing this out

Ok, this is a nice tutorial, but the chords you say you are playing is wrong!! You have a capo on 2nd fret so the chord you call Em7 is really F#m7. Therefore, all the other chords you are playing are wrong also and should be 2 notes higher. I appreciate you are trying to make this simple for beginners, but honestly it is very misleading when you say a chord is Am7 when actually its Bm7 if you played with the original or with other musicians...
@musicpolyglotАй бұрын
Thanks for the comment. In music, it’s not only standard practice, but actually a notation and transcription rule that when you score for transposing instruments (such as the guitar) you also transpose the part so the musician who has to play it can use the fingerings that represent the note written (not sounded). As much as I appreciate your concern, I always refer to notes from the capo, not only to make it easier, but also because this is the standard and correct way of doing it. I hope the video helped you get close. If you prefer a score in “concert pitch”, I’m happy to provide it for you.

This reads like you’re trying to find fault with something. Playing it with a pick is a feel thing you can figure out for yourself . This is a really good breakdown of the left hand movements and what’s accented by the right hand. Apply the strumming technique that you want. You have p much all the info.

Great tutorial, thanks! One comment though, when you refer to chords, you are showing the incorrect chordnames. For example, the first chord -because of the capo- is not a Cmaj13, it is a Dmaj13. It is the right shape, but not the right chord. This makes it confusing and technically incorrect. But again, thanks for the great tutorial with this beautiful song(and artist)!
@musicpolyglot6 ай бұрын
hey Frank, thanks for taking the time to comment and address this recurring misunderstanding. On guitar, when you use a capo, we don't use concert pitch to refer to notes and chords, we take the capo as if it were fret 0 and use shapes to refer to chords, which is the very first thing I go to pains to explain as soon as i start talking at minute 2:27, I talk explicitly about the D chord and why we call it C when we have capo II, if you watch the video this will be clear to you. So the chords are indeed correct as per music convention. Hope this helps.
@ffrankk6 ай бұрын
@@musicpolyglot I have seen the video, when you talk about chord shapes you are correct, but when you talk about chords, you should name the chord correctly, otherwise you would not be able to play with other musicians in a band or group.
@musicpolyglot6 ай бұрын
I hear what you say and can understand that you may think we should name chords by their concert pitch. In practice though, guitarrists don't, we refer to their transposed names when we talk about them, and after fighting the convention for years myself, i have come to understand why it makes it much easier to do it the conventiional way, you'll find most professional guitarrist will follow this convention too or will have a really hard time communicating. When you play with other musicians, that means you are a musician yourself who can play for real and you are expected to be able to name chords in concert pitch for your keyboard player and bass player, but no need amongs guitarist, it just makes things harder than they already are ;)

Thanks for taking the time to comment. If you find the tutorial goes too fast, it may be an indication that some background work on your part is needed first. Feel free to reach out if you need help with that.

Amazing! Thank you. What about how the guys are playing at her npr desk is it possible to do a breakdown of the chords and what the right hand is doing?
@musicpolyglot8 ай бұрын
That’s top level playing by those two guys. They’re mostly not playing chords. Those parts are so sophisticated that they’re not something you learn note for note but rather how they’re thinking and what material they’re using to create their parts.

Question for Madison fans here: Does anyone know the name of the extra pedal she uses specifically to lower the tuning 1 Whole Step? I believe it's red and is long like an expression pedal. It's not the Artificial Blonde her signature vibrato pedal, this one is completely different.
@keeganmclish30138 ай бұрын
I believe it's the DigiTech Whammy WH-1, I saw her explain how she used it to get the tuning in this song if I can remember correctly. It's also the same pedal Tom Morello uses in Rage Against the Machine
@indeestar11118 ай бұрын
WOOOOWWW!! Not only did you NAIL what she's playing but you also captured the tone, tuning and all the little intricacies she did EXACTLY. This is REALLY hard to do. Believe me, I've been trying unsuccessfully ha. Phenomenal! You deserve a LOT of credit sir! I'll be attempting to learn this from your videos + tabs here BIG Thanks to you 🙏
