I remember Best Pal fondly. Followed his exciting races and his retirement. I never got to meet him as I lived in Oregon at the time. I cried when he died unexpectedly.

I was there. It was a great day of racing.

This filly never ceased to amaze me. A tiny little thing that looked more like a cart pony than a thoroughbred, and a bit mule-eared besides. But boy could Goldikova ever pick em' up and lay em' down when it came to the business end of a race. In 27 career starts she had only one out of money finish in her career, her record an astounding 27-17-6-3, and she finished with more career G1 victories (14) than any horse in Europe ever had, male or female. What a tough, tenacious, gutsy, and just pure class filly she was!

He proved himself the top sire in Japan for one and a half decades and his sons are not just great race horses but sires too.
