I went into this thinking I'd prefer the DGT, but it really seemed a bit foggy to me, and I ended up preferring the HSS in almost every comparison. Making me second guess the CE24 I just ordered (though those have more snap than a DGT and so probably land between it and the HSS).

PRS makes some of my favorite guitars. The SE line is so good now, much better than it was ten or twelve years ago when I owned one. But if you want the absolute best guitar you can get, the Core PRS is the one you want. If can only afford the SE, it's a great guitar. It's probably the best guitar you can buy at its price point.
@VIDS20132 күн бұрын
The Les Paul actually puts that PRS to shame!
@Man.Well933 күн бұрын
If you compare two necks, how about a clean tone and the exact same material played directly following each other?
@VIDS20133 күн бұрын
Yeah, the core model definitely sounds richer with greater harmonic content. But they're very close in overall sonic character. I wonder how much of the difference is due to the USA vs. Asian pickups?
@RatherBeRiffing3 күн бұрын
Agree and well said! I’m guessing it’s a little of everything that makes the difference.
@didamnesia35753 күн бұрын
I have core studio, an S2 McCarty, and an se 24-08. Today I brought my se 24-08 to guitar center and compared it to the 2024 S2 24-08 and a core custom 24. The US made instruments are superior. Both in feel and massively in tone. The SE model pickups are thinner, brighter without sparkle, and lack depth of tone (harmonics). The US made pickups are much much better. Smoother, silkier, with sparkle, more attitude, more harmonics, etc. Possibly lower output. In the coil split, there is no comparison. The SE model sounds like butt cheese in comparison to the US models. However, the SE is still a good instrument. Its in direct comparison with the US versions of these instruments with the US version of the pickups that it is very obvious. Im convinced a lot of these youtuber have tinnitus or just have a tin ear. Also the finish: the SE coloring over the veneer looks cheap in comparison. And I specifically mean cheap.

Gil Yaron used to make a good 59 replica and put his own name and headstock shape on it that set it apart from being a straight replica. I still would love a Gustavsson though, I think the shape of the bluesmaster is great. The thing I don't like about modern gibson is that the top carve is still not right IMO.
@RatherBeRiffing4 күн бұрын
I’ve played a couple and they live up to the hype. My Yaron Bone 59 is my #1. I wonder if the only way to get the top carve right is to use the original carving methods rather than CNC. I’ve played one original 59 burst and as much as Gibson has improved in recent years, there is still something about the originals that probably can’t be replicated without a time machine.
@robertlucas98675 күн бұрын
I’m similar in choosing a guitar. If I see a small detail like the headstock that others don’t, I want it. My Yamaha bass has a small color change on maple fretboard that follows a wood grain. I really love it. I love dark rosewood boards but I also enjoy figured grain subtle natural multi color ones as well.

I always enjoy your playing. The guitars very nice too. If I could only have 1 I’d choose the PRS for versatility with pickups splitting & lighter weight. But the thick, heavy, sustained sound of a les Paul is amazing too.

PRS sounded articulate, the Gibson sounded natural. If that makes any sense. I prefer the sound of the Les Paul but the PRS almost has piano like cleans.

For a given scale length, string gage, and tuning, the string tension is fixed. How could a Novo be harder to bend?
@RatherBeRiffing8 күн бұрын
I thought so too, but I think there's something about the mastery Trem that affects the tension. I've played the whole Novo line up and the tension was as expected on guitars without that Trem.

Core sounds a little better, looks a little better and may feel a little better, but I can't see spending nearly $5K for a guitar I want to play every day and leave around the house on a stand. If I were a professional, I could see dropping the extra money but for a hobbyist, I am fine with me SE. The difference in sound is there but it isn't huge.

This video just came up on my morning suggested again. I see I was the last person who posted on it as well. I just bought one of those new Ultra II HSS strats in that cool blue. I used it live two times so far, and I am still up in the air as it sounds so much thinner than I am accustomed to and probably need to re-EQ my entire setup if I want to gig it, but no way I would be able to switch between the PRS and the Ultra II without change EQ profile. The DGT is a great one guitar does it all in the studio. I would also suggest the PRS Studio. My go to for it all is often the good ol' Custom 24, but recently got myself a Modern Eagle V and I am discovering how versatile it is. I just wish some of these axes has thicker necks. I prefer fat necks like on my R8 LPs. Cheers and happy Holidays to you sir.

Well prefer🤔 that dgt is just damn sexy good lord! So much so that even if i preferred strat tones i might grab that one first😂 mind you i just bought my first guitar and it’s a hss strat type so I’m glad i liked how it sounded as well although it lacked in spots I’m sure most of us thought it would anyways. Great video brother thanks

See the problem here is if this is played clean or through pedals or an equalizer. I have never heared Custombuckers sound like this clean. Sorry. I can't be sure but there is no way to know. To me...., I believe or assume and yes I understand ...., this sounds like through something.

One of my favorites is the African Burst..( in beauty of the Burst.. I don’t like any aging, not all burst have finish checking. I’ve never found any custom shop LP’s, that played the same as a real Burst. It’s, always settling for a guitar , that’s an LP in looks and name only. Remember, these Gibsons only have their name in common. My Max comes the closet. Very nice laidback video..

I would keep it. Recently I have turned my ankle in the PRS rabbit hole 🤣 im thinking that with a silver sky and a dgt (ses) i could replace my Clapton Strat, HSS player, offset telly and RevStar RSS20 for less than the cost of a American pro 2 . My main thing is that I am always fighting with set up and it's always Goldie locks with the tone...i love all of them and have spent a lot swapping pick ups, set ups etall....so the moral of the story is Paul was right 🤣🤣 Thanks for the great video.
@cooljp153116 күн бұрын
Do a blind comparison and nobody will be able to tell the difference. A $750 Revstar Standard will sound just as good as any Les Paul or Les Paul copy at any price. This is because Revstar actually is as good as those, but what influences the sound the most, you gotta work backwards. Speaker Cab is number 1, then your amp, then your guitar comes last.. So if you play them through the same amp/cab combo, any decent guitar with decent humbuckers will sound almost the same, in the mix nobody could tell, and most would be clueless even with guitar only, as long as they can't see the guitar.

I personally didn't care for the "S" version of the pickups, the US-made pickups are better, I would upgrade the electronics to match and test that. Probably little difference left at that point. Any decent humbucker would probably be better.

Great video completely understand your desire to get as close to an original burst as you can. Take the non-Murphy lab Les Paul and send it to Historic makeovers in Sanford Florida. They will get you where you wanna go. You can hear Joe Bonamassa sing their praises on his Lazarus video Paul Stanley on his guitar collection video also recommends some highly as do I. even though there founder, Kim LaFleur has recently passed sadly his team is still in place and going strong. Great video.

Definitely two different sounds from these guitars. I do think having more wood at the neck joint of the single cut changes the tone. Possibly a wee more sustain? I'm thinking of getting one of these models but am still up in the air on which one. Great review and comparison but it hasn't made my choice any easier.
@RatherBeRiffing20 күн бұрын
Thanks, David! I do find a the Singlecut has a touch more sustain. I agree it’s a tough choice because they are both great and sound very similar. The deciding factor for me ended up being looks as I slightly preferred the double cut aesthetic.
