Good morning from New Hampshire where it has cooled about 20 degrees from Thursday. Heat index was near 100, which is pretty hot for this neck of the woods. Bees were bearding something fierce. The much-needed rain has let up a bit. Just a few bees hanging on the hive this morning. I need to check for honey, but with the humidity we have had, I will definitely be checking with a refractometer. Thanks for sharing, have a great weekend, Brice

Did you do a mite check on them? It is my understanding that they will sometimes abscond because of mites whin nothing else seams to be a cause
@josephrawls6 күн бұрын
I didn't do a mite check on them. I don't think they were there long enough for mites to cause any problem. Im thinking someone there did something to them and is not talking.

Great to see Mark again, it's been a few years now. Also great hearing about the "old days" in Julian's River Region Bee Club, the best club that ever was. Go's peace brother.

That is crazy I have NEVER had my DJI Osmo Action overheat. I have the version 1 but it gets so hot you can barely touch it. I do wear it though so maybe it's in the shade more. I wonder if like a little tiny umbrella or shade device would help? Thanks for sharing!
@josephrawls12 күн бұрын
I purchased an umbrella that attaches to the tripod. We will see how it goes. I may have to anchor the tripod down now if it is windy. lol
@BrianCooper90112 күн бұрын
@@josephrawls Oh yea that wouldn't be good if it was windy! A lot of time tripods have a hook on the middle part where it holds the legs together. Those are made to hold weight for stabilization so they don't blow over.
@russellkoopman300413 күн бұрын
Thanks Joseph. I've never had to do that yet but the day will probably come. You at least recovered a lot of nice comb. Will you extract a few of the deeps or use for splits later on? Have a good weekend. It looks like you still have a pile of hives there.
@josephrawls13 күн бұрын
I have given most of the honey and pollen frames to other colonies. The pollen frames when in the second chamber and honey went to the top or third boxes. All this was done after freezing them for a few days. I do still have a few hives, some of them are production hives and the other just seem to exist. LOL! Thanks for watching.
@DougMassengale13 күн бұрын
why not give it a frame of brood. the ones that hatch will help the population and they should raise another queen.
@josephrawls13 күн бұрын
Earlier in the season that might have been something to do. We are only about three weeks away from our normal summer dearth. Also normally when a colony gets to the point of laying workers all the bees in the hive are old and probably only have a couple weeks of life left, so I chose to give all these recourses to other colonies instead of taking for other colonies. Thanks.
@VidKatMA19 күн бұрын
A Colony can only make a new queen from brand new eggs that are still receiving only Royal Jelly. Once they are getting Bee bread and other foods they can no longer create a queen from that egg, so it must be done early...3 days...
@DougMassengale7 күн бұрын
Pick a frame from another hive, they will raise a queen. I do it here all the time, and I'm farther north than you. I live in Northwest Ark. and did this for over 50 years.
@VidKatMA16 күн бұрын
@DougMassengale Only if that frame has 3 day old eggs on it. 👍
@rtxhoneybees13 күн бұрын
Was that second one really laying worker? If so, you caught it early. Queenless for sure and you have enough bees with all the swarms you caught. That split screen was cool! Your video skills are impressive. I wonder, if that was a long row of identical hives, would foragers from the remaining hive drift to the left.
@josephrawls13 күн бұрын
Yes it was laying workers. A few days earlier there were a lot more capped drone cells there. The hives are mostly identical. It think there is always a lot more drifting than we really notice when they are lined up this way. Thanks.
@dcsblessedbees14 күн бұрын
Sorry for your laying worker issue but this one will end up very useful to many new beekeepers. It's kind of amazing how fast a colony can go sideways on ya. Thanks much Joey, Blessed Days...
