It goes like the clappers! Question. Does the exhaust just dump out of the side of the cyl block - if so - a bit rude init?
@philquine8 күн бұрын
Yeah it does dump it out of the cylinder block, as do the MInor 1 & 2 and some of the others in the range.

The more you flick it, the more you lower the pressure. Wind string round the copper pipes to lag them. On mine I also lagged the outside of the boiler with mahogany strips, held in place with two thin brass straps soldered into rings.
@philquineАй бұрын
Thanks. I have since lagged it similar to what you have, but haven’t ran it as yet. It looks so much better though. Hopefully it runs better too! 👍

I wonder if this could be made to work with standard Scalextric track unpowered, similar guide frame but offset?
@philquineАй бұрын
Hi, Thanks for you comment. The groove is a lot bigger and deeper than on Scalextric and the Mamod has a lot of force behind it. Even on this one of them was trying to carry on straight on the tight bend, so unfortunately I doubt it would work. 👍👍👍

Faster moving than I'd ever imagined 😊
@philquineАй бұрын
Yeah they run surprisingly well on the track. The roller when it was first fired up was so fast it was out of control and had to be stopped from flying off the table on the tight curve. The little wiggle in the track before the tight bend is to slow them before they hit this point. Having seen this I am really inspired to build even a small version of this for my own Mamods. Thanks for your comment. 👍

This video pleases me so much, Mamod mated with Scalextric, what's not to like?!. I remember my Dad having a Mamod like the first one we see (but it had a "roof") when I was kid, but it wasn't that easy to use within the confines of the house or garden. A track setup like this with that clever guide at the front would have kept us entertained for hours and hours😁👍

You're quite right, they had a removable canopy- you could run them with it on or off.
