Is it possible to mix enough mica powder into white to make it black? I'm trying to just buy just one color in a large jar that I can make as versatile as possible whenever I want to change the color to match my project. I've seen people mix mica powder in but want to know if I can do this with black mica powder or will it require so much that it changes the structure of the clay?

Hello Golden Maknaeee, thank you for watching my video. Yes, my rings are waterproof because I coat them with 2-3 layers of UV/LED Resin. Once cured, the UV/LED resin is waterproof. You must coat Air-dry clay with a waterproof sealant if you want to wear it as rings - because no air-dry clay is waterproof. (It is always recommended to remove all jewelry before swimming or bathing).

Hello elysian thrifts, Thank you for watching my video. Yes, air dry clay hardens. All air dry clays are different, so the drying time depends on the type of clay you use; and the temperature and humidity where you live. Where I live, it takes the Air, about 5 days to harden my Air Dry clay. If you are making rings, you will want to seal your ring, like I did, to make it waterproof. Most Air Dry Clay will become soft again, if they get wet. Jazzy

Can you do a video on how to know which one is to bake and which is not, because i have a clay that doesnt have instruccions
@jewelsbyjazzy
@jewelsbyjazzy 3 жыл бұрын
Hi lissy, thank you watching my video and for writing. As far as I know, there are around 3 types of clays that need to be baked. 1. Polymer Clay needs to be baked and the packages have baking instructions on them. 2. There are ceramic clays that need to be 'fired' in a kiln at really high temperatures, 3. Then there are homemade salt dough clay recipes that typically need to be baked. The other types of clays that are sold are 'air dry clays' like I used in my video. I do find many that many air dry clays that do not have any instructions, which is frustrating. The air dry clay I used does not have any instructions, so I had to make a few things and try to determine how long it takes to dry. It turns out it takes around 5 days to dry small items like rings. Maybe I can do some research on your clay, if you can provide the name. Does your package have a brand name on it? Typically air dry clay is soft right out of the package, no need to condition the clay like polymer clay. So if your clay is soft, it may be air dry clay. You can take a small amount out of the package and put it somewhere and then check it in a few hours, then check it the next day, and then the next day after that. If it is getting hard, then you have air dry clay and you will have to wait and see how many days it takes to become hard and fully dried. The drying time for air dry clay can be anywhere from a few hours, to 1 day to several days or longer, depending on the brand and the air temp. and humidity level where you live. If the clay doesn't ever get hard after being left out of the package, it probably needs to be baked. However, there is also a clay that is sold (I am not sure of the name), but it's designed to be used over and over again and never gets dry or hard and doesn't get baked. It's made for children, so they can make something, then smoosh it down and start all over and if they forget to put it in a bag, it doesn't matter, because it will never dry out. So it's possible you have that type of clay, also. There are soooo many types of clays available now - it's kind of overwhelming - and when there are no instructions, it's like a science experiment. 😜Jazzy

Hi Lenny Cake, thank you for watching my vid. 🤗 Here is an awesome glaze, made by Padico for their air dry clays: www.etsy.com/listing/881460476/padico-sealer-super-gloss-100ml-water?ref=shop_home_active_3&sca=1 I have used it on other brands of air dry clay and it works great on those also. Always test it on a small piece of dried clay, to make sure there are no reactions, before you glaze your sculptures. It dries really fast - depending on air temp. and how thick you apply it. For me, a thin coat dries in 15 minutes. Multiple coats can be applied. This is my 'go-to' glaze when I don't need creations to be waterproof. Happy Creating! 😊 Jazzy

Hi Jannah Abbraham, Thank you for watching my video. 💕 Air Dry clay must be sealed to make it water-proof, otherwise if the clay gets wet, it will become reactivated. Even after sealing the clay with UV-LED resin, I do recommend removing the ring(s) before washing hands, bathing or swimming. 😊 Jazzy

@jewelsbyjazzy
@jewelsbyjazzy 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Nidhi's world, thank you for watching my video. 💕 If you do not have resin to seal the air dry clay that you made - to make it waterproof, I would suggest using your clay only for sculptures or items that will not get wet. Another option for making the rings, is to use polymer clay, as it is waterproof since it is made with plasticizers. But you will have to bake the polymer clay. The reason I use Yuli Air Dry clay, is it is natural and does emit any kind of toxins. It does takes many days to dry, but I am getting better at being patient. 😜lol. Jazzy

@@__nid.hiii021 Hi Nidhi's world, I do not know any homemade polymer clay recipe, however, here are 2 really great videos on making a nice homemade air dry clays (called cold porcelain clay) with just a few household ingredients. One video requires No Baking and the other one does require using a Microwave. I have made the recipe from EmmyMade and made lots of jewelry with it (and it didn't crack). The jewelry I made using this recipe is strong, because the recipe contains glue, so I didn't have any cracking. I would suggest making a necklace/pendant instead of rings, then you will not have to worry about putting any type of glaze on them. Just let your sister know to be careful Not get her necklace wet, if you use either of these clay recipe to make her a wedding gift. Here are links to the 2 videos: kzbin.info/www/bejne/jHrad6ipbd6Ho6c kzbin.info/www/bejne/sKK9oXmQaKeZi5o I hope this helps. Happy Creating! Jazzy

@jewelsbyjazzy
@jewelsbyjazzy 3 жыл бұрын
Hello sahana ganesh, thank you for watching my video and thank you for your question.💕 Yes, you can use clear nail polish on this air dry clay instead of resin. The reason I use UV/LED resin is to make the rings hard and durable and also waterproof. With Clear nail polish, depending on the brand, you may have to apply several coats (drying well in between coats) - this will help to harden the clay (make sure to wait for the clay to be VERY dry before coating). Several nice coatings of clear nail polish will make your rings waterproof. You may, from time-to-time, have to reapply a coat of nail polish, in case it chips off from wear. Some clear nail polishes may yellow over time. Great question! Happy Creating! 😊Jazzy

@jewelsbyjazzy
@jewelsbyjazzy 3 жыл бұрын
Hello Kala Laka, thank you so much for watching my video.💕 Yes, you can seal air dry clay jewelry with an 'air dry clay sealant', such as this one by Padico.www.etsy.com/listing/920163371/padico-gloss-finish-100ml-waterproof?ref=shop_home_active_2&crt=1 It comes in a gloss or matte finish in a waterproof version. It's an awesome sealant, which I love to use on my clay pins. The reason I use a UV/LED resin on my air dry clay rings, is because rings get banged around a lot and I wanted to make sure they don't break (I use 2 coats of UV/LED resin to make them nice and hard). This particular clay does dry really durable - but like all air dry clay, it has to be made waterproof, so that if the ring gets wet, the clay doesn't get soft again, from the moisture. If you are careful with your rings, you can make them waterproof with the sealant I listed above and then you don't have to mess with UV/LED resin.😊Jazzy

@jewelsbyjazzy
@jewelsbyjazzy 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Violet, thank you so much for watching my video and for your question.💕 The reason I use UV/LED resin to seal my rings (I apply 2 coats) is because it makes the rings super durable, waterproof and glossy. If you are using air day clay, like I did, it's really important to make your rings Waterproof. Mod Podge does make a 'waterproof' version (I think they have a 'dishwasher' safe Mod Podge and an 'outdoor' use Mod Podge). I haven't tried them yet, so I am not sure if it will make the rings as strong as a resin coating, but I think you can still get a nice glossy, waterproof finish. Just make sure the Mod Podge says 'Water Proof' not 'Water Repellent'. Happy Creating! 😊 Jazzy
