Jus to muse about sex hormones on vocal quality, I do believe there's some kind of element worth considering here. It's interesting because, as a musician who always secretly wanted desperately to be able to sing (and I do have perfect pitch... which, whatever, right? doesn't seem to hurt or help tbh. my vocal quality can still be horrendous, even if I can sing a notes right on dead center key), I noticed when I was young, I had a MUCH lower key I had to sing in and just often couldn't reach the notes which my master idols hit: James Taylor's notes were of the HIGHEST I could get - of course, not the choir boy-glass wind instrument of his vocal quality tho (one of my major idols). But Simon and Garfunkel was torture to me, being my first artist I LOVED, cuz there was zero way I was copying Art Garfunkel's angelic situation. BUT as I grew older (42 now) I can hit pretty high notes. I casually found myself JUST being under being able to do that 'Forever Young' song by Alphaville last year.. which struck me as MUCH higher than I used to be able to do (tho it's still JUST at the point of being too high, to where I sound too strained). I did EVERYTHING like my idols in life... even got on heroin, not touching any other drugs. lol. Just pure opiates because I thought that every artist I heard that did heroin who i had ever heard was just incredible-beautiful and wrote heart-nuking lyrics. So I think that 20 years on opiates has lowered my testosterone and given me the ability to hit higher notes. I rarely masturbate. But I do find that it does do something not good to my voice... maybe it's less passion? Idk... for a day after or so. I just hear myself more often and go ,"uhg, not on today." Point is, It seems strange how much singing voice DOES or CAN vacillate between SO good and SO bad, for me at least. If I just start out, I sound much better.. after 3 songs, I am straining and cracking and sound like a low-rent, broken Neil Young.

This is the challenge of playing an instrument that lives inside the human body. A guitar sits in the corner and has only one job in life-to be a guitar. Your voice, on the other hand, is always a reflection of your state of health and state of mind. Certainly you will have good singing days and bad singing days and the aim of vocal technique is to try to level the playing field a little. Your voice is also constantly developing across your life span. It is not uncommon for a man's voice to get higher as he ages, whereas women's voices often get lower.

@@TotalVoiceStudio thanks for your valuable time! i'm actually glad to hear it's normal. i always like to throw some crazy weird candor out there in Anonymous Land because, even if you get savagely trashed 99% of the time, you MIGHT get some interesting feedback on stuff you just can't EVER divulge in real life. IF you happen feel like ever answering: Is there some secret to not having your voice "wear out" during one session? is it practice? like i said, i don't actually sing regularly or in public beyond the odd song and as harmonic support because i know i can't RELY on it in ANY sense (like you said, like i can with my guitar). I bet it prob has most to do with the "right technique." You vocal coaches are alwas talking about that. I never got any conventional healthy technique going. I always just had my semi-reliable odd vocal style that i know can get me through winging it ENOUGH, but never to be any kind of front person.

Have techno song lyric stuck in my head for the last 12 hours (Just the word really, Testify! Testify!). I listened to the song with my daughter a few times yesterday. in the truck...then it never left. It was with me through my insomnia last night and into the day today. Usually it doesn't last this long. The last thing I want to do is to listen to the song again in its entirety, lol. I will just stay busy I guess. Eventually it will depart. ugh.

As crazy as it seems, listening to the song from start to finish in its entirety can help trigger an "it's finished" response in the brain. If you don't want to do that, find a song that's a similar feel to this song and listen to that one through.

Yes, analysing what some people do naturally and have been doing all their lives without too much thought. But if you weren't so lucky to have that background and training, then analysing can be helpful. As a native speaker, I never had to learn English grammar, but people who learn English as a second language need to learn it.
@xray5043
@xray5043 Жыл бұрын
@@TotalVoiceStudio I hear you. Going with your example. It's not just trying to learn English. It would be like trying to learn English from a certain group of English speakers to acquire their dialect. Especially if that dialect is natural hard to immitate well and highly sought-after even when the people aren't. People that aren't us have been trying to drain, strain, analyze and reverse engineer our gospel ,blues, soul music, r&b etc etc etc. When I watch old interviews of Black artist they would get the question over and over , what is soul? It wasn't a harmless curiosity it was so they could try to brand profit and exclude the originators. Yet it's a gift that's not refundable or transferable. So I laugh when I see on these singing shows people that have been chasing what soul is for decades. Saying to people during their audition that mimic what soul was back in the day , that's soul! Well half of a century later they are passing the class with a B. Except soul and gospel comes from the spirit not a book. So if you get another Elvis sure that's soul, for you. It's not soul though. Because what we have that you want is non refundable or transferable. 🥰

Listening to the entire song from start to end might help get it out of your head. That doesn't help when you can't remember the name of the song. In your situation, there are APPs that can supposedly name a song you hum - Sound Hound is a well-known example. If that doesn't work, try asking a few friends whether they recognise the song. If you can't find the song, choose another similar song and listen to it and sing it from start to end. Good luck!

Actually I think this is a very interesting question. The human animal is a very complex entity and I don't think science has yet completely explained it. I can't see any reason why sexual frustration wouldn't change the way you sing in pretty much the same way that being sad or happy does. Perhaps this could be used as a tool? You could think about copyrighting it.
