I lived here all of my life but moved away in 2009. Interestingly enough I was in O'Neills by the train station (Bcknhm Jct) last week - and still the lovely Linda is running the joint. She was and has been I believe since 03 / 04. Longest serving publican in BR3. Like everywhere Bcknhm it will soon becoming a dive as next to FlatFoot Sams (for those old enough will remember) they are building a new shag den called The Travel Lodge - so good luck with that one

oh, i shall have to go visit. a friend of mine lives in aussie, but he had a flat in west croydon (the big pink building) that he no longer wanted to rent, so he asked me to pack and ship his things. at that time i hadn't been out of the house for about three weeks, (because of lock-down) but my gf was happy to do the shopping and i suffer really mild anxiety, so when i first went to his flat i was amazed that i was the only person on the bus, and i only saw a very few people on the streets. on first trip, on the way back home, i took some photos of the fountains and sculptures in the courtyard of the building, but also there was road works going on and brand new tar had been laid with brand new and shiny road markings - as there was no traffic - they were pristine and i had to photograph them. i posted them on instagram and to my surprise they got more likes than i'd had for anything else (i do computer graphics) so the next time i went over i took a different route back to the bus stop and took more photos, and i got more likes. so, each day i would get on the first bus, get off at a stop i hadn't been to, walk around and take photos of road markings and anything else that might be "abstract art", and to my delight continued to get likes. so there are four bus routes going toward croydon, and five routes going towards beckenham and bromley, and i explored those, get off at a random stop, walk one or two stops, take photos, post photos. till i ran out of bus stops. luckily we have a tram system, so i did the same with that, until i ran out of tram stops, but then again west croydon has the overground, so i'm currently collecting overground stops, and i venture on east croydon trips as well. so i have walked almost every street between bromley north, addington and wimbledon, and almost as much into london and around the west end. when i lived in beckenham we used to shop at waitrose by the tram stop, and i paid a visit on one of my tram adventures where i walked as many of the streets around that area as my feet could bear, so i did go up beckenham palace park road, but i didn't know about the park. so, thanks, now i have to go back. :)

@@aj384 That's good! 👍 And I have no issue with trendy,as long as people make an effort to mix& integrate..And then u can have a real mix-melting Pot!. .I lived around Victoria Park,Hackney ( yrs back) and come the weekend u saw many people, but during the week,it was like they were absent!. And I used make an effort to use some of the local shops, not just rely upon Tesco's ( which I rarely used). But it's long time since I've been in London &a lot has changed!

@@aj384 Oh I can imagine! Where I lived many of the 'Newcomer's' wanted nothing to do with the locals( unless they're was a specific purpose or something to be gained)And then some.of the locals were very mistrustful of outsiders or 'inverted Snobs' so not a lot of interaction was had!

Over 45 years ago I used to walk up and down that High Street both to go to a Saturday and Sunday job as a teenager whilst at secondary school. Allders where my Mum worked and in George Street where there used to be a Wimpy Bar. I also tried working at a nightclub that used be along the High Street. I did all my fashion shopping (Twiggy years) along there and Mum used to buy our school clothing from the shop that was on the corner opposite George St and High Street. I would walk back down the High St, towards West Croydon staion but turn right just before it and go to the Bus station to catch the bus home. In later years I worked further down beyond the High Street and used to get the train to Croydon, (we had moved to the South Coast by then) coming in to East Croydon station and then travel back each day. I remember seeing the Wedding Cake building and flyover as we called it then being built! The Whitgift Centre was a lovely place to shop and eat I used to go to the pub in in heart on Friday nights. Seeing this reminded me of those happy times. But sadly as alwasy things change and I cant say this part has changed for teh better. It looks down at heel, and the people ..I would think I was in a different world... people used to dress smart..today it has made me realise just how casual we all are and scruffy looking like we dont care about ourselves anymore. But thank you for this it was lovely to see and be reminded of places and times. Thank you for the work and effort put in the producing it and giving up your time . I only found you recently and I have enjoyed seeing some of the places I once lived. I have never been back to them since I left so it was good to walk with you :)
