I read all of these 18 years ago as a child and the audio books are soooo good to help sleep- I have insomnia. Yes, there’s a few bits missing but Jan Francis is the best narrator ever!! What a legend. It’s so calming . Shame there’s only 25 books 😮

The way that Uncle Quentin talks about how he is going to spend his wife's gold! Why is he called Quentin Kirrin and yet Kirrin Island was his wife's and the wreak was her g-ggrandfather's. Also Julian, Dick and Anne have Kirrin as their last name in some stories and Barnard in another. Lots of inconsistencies. Never the less, I still enjoy the Famous Five stories.

It just occurred to me why the food the children ate is always mentioned and described as plentiful. The first famous five book, this one, was published 11th Sept 1942. Food rationing started on 8th January 1940 and didn't finally stop until 1958. Most of the foodstuffs mentioned are ones that were rationed. Vegetables are rarely mentioned, but they weren't rationed.

Can't help thinking that keeping the story, but swapping the characters with those from Peppa Pig would make them wildly popular again.

Enid Blyton waa entertaining and exciting for childhood reading, but she put some absurd ideas in her books. Saying a 10, 11 and 12yo were old enough to holiday without their parents is ridiculous.

Enid Blyton wrote books with ideas and words appropriate to the time she was writing about 70 years ago when children were allowed a great deal of freedom in safer times. I flew on my own from London to Glasgow unaccompanied at the age of 11 for a holiday with Scottish relatives and cousins in the 1960’s. No one was concerned about whether it was safe to travel. Different times!

I used to be down the canal early morning fishing on my own at the age of 9, that was the early 80's children had more common sense back then.
