Speaking objectively as a Habs fan, Claude Lemiuex was an ass. He had no class, and earned every beating he received. No need to play like a jackass, but he did

Besides the lakers and Celtics, and Red Sox Yankees, this was the greatest and most heated rivalry in pro sports history, and as a wings fan, it was a joy and heart ache to watch

1 thing though...how the hell do you not mention that Colorado was defending champs in 2002? Yes we had lost Bourque,& a few guys,& yes-Detroit was understandably a pretty heavy favorite. I say that 2002 Detroit is the best team ive ever seen. But all you say is "we were a young up,& coming team trying to prove they were among the nhls best?" Fuck you-we were the 2 seed,& defending champs. Yes,teams like SJ had closed the gap-we beat LA in 7 in round 1,then beat SJ in 7 in round 2...only reason we had home ice,& 2 seed was cuz of a tiebreaker. But Forsberg missed the entire reg season-then came back to lead the playoffs in scoring. Everybody knew Detroit was the best team-& there was a pretty big gap to everybody else-I always say those Avs overachieved by even getting to game 7 vs Detroit. But you act like we were a plucky 7 seed-with a whole new team. Detroit was clearly the better team,but Colorado was the defending champs,2 seed,& fell 1 win short of upsetting you,& we wouldve CRUSHED Carolina-just like you did. We fell 1 win short of repeating. In the end-the much better team won,but this wasnt some 16 seed almost upsetting a 1 seed in March Madness,like you act. Otherwise-terrific show,& reasonably fair-though its clearly from a Detroit perspective. But you dropped the ball on that last little bit.

Being 25 yrs old when the Avs came to Denver-this rivalry is what started my love affair with hockey,& the Avs. I work at Ball arena now for Av,& Nug games,& we had no clue back then how special this rivalry was. I knew it was intense,& the best hockey rivalry at the time. But didnt realize itd go down in history,& now rightfully makes almost every list of "best rivalries in all of sports history"-not just hockey. We kinda knew these teams were both ridiculously stacked,& the hockey was amazing-but it also was all some of us in Denvrr really knew bout hockey back then. That having Sakic,Forsberg,Roy,etc was something super rare. Same could be said of those Wings teams.

Any true competitor knows… Your greatness is defined by the level of your opponent. When I got out of the service and moved back home to Colorado.. the Avalanche came too… I fell in Love with hockey because of this rivalry and our brand new team. We were all so blessed in Colorado and Michigan to get to see this live.

I always found it so fascinating and ironic that The Wings caused the Roy trade and inadvertently created their own Frankenstein, lol
@donpietruk1517
@donpietruk1517 Жыл бұрын
The Wings didn't cause the trade but were the catalyst for it. Roy felt he was disrespected by his coach leaving him out there for as long as he did when he was clearly having a very off night. He should have never started the 2nd period. Plus Roy was a hothead so I'm sure he told the team President to trade him or else he'd play like crap or something to that effect.

CONVENIENT HOW YOU LEFT OUT THE 2000-01 AVS STANLEY CUP CHAMPIONSHIP WITH RAY BOURQUE. NOT EVEN A MENTION OF IT. You must be a red wing boot licker. Makes sense that you left it out. Because the wings, as the #2 seed, got spanked out of the playoffs in six games by the LA Kings. Hilarious. The Avalanche went on to beat New Jersey in seven games. Finally securing a Stanley Cup for Ray Bourque. Also beating the team that swept the wings in the finals in '95. I'm curious to know why you didn't mention this season? Other than the fact that they didn't meet in the playoffs that year. The Rivalry was still going on at that point for sure.

That happened when Bertuzzi was with Vancouver and Red Wings fans hated him till he came over here. Pretty much like I got over Chelios whom I despised with the Hawks once he put the sweater on. The Hawks were Detroit's rivals before the Avalanche were. Belfour and Chelios were really hated here.
