@@ianmanners2614 Hi Ian, I’ve done 70 miles in then. The width overlay hotspot disappeared after about 20 miles. I’m considering using them for up and coming Beachy Head Marathon due to being lightweight and nimble over hills. Either these or the Zinal 2 like last year. Tbc

It's hard to share a DNF bud so kudos to you for talking to us about it. I am sure without all those prerace issues illness, car trouble etc you probably would have toughed it out. I think you were rocked from the start mate. I am sure when you return next time you will smash it mate! 👏😎🤘

Out of area trail ultras always have lots of back stories - it is really interesting to hear yours. I've loved the mountain races I've done, and plan to do more. I've done a run from Lizard Point to Lands End (- which is a game of three halves, and a spectacular route), and I would like to do the Arc 50 in 2026 if I can get in (- I couldn't do the hundred). I hope Berlin goes well - I'll be following.

@@rmsrmsrmsrms half size down was correct for me. I had to send them back for refund due to getting really bad blisters on inside from the carbon wings coming up the side wall of upper. Shame as the rest was fine, although could have been a bit lighter weight. I have fairly wide feet esp left foot.

Cheers Ben, there is always a trade off to get the weight so low. They def felt good when picking up the pace and engaging the plate/foam. Sole durability may not be the strong point.

@@lukecotter169 Hi Luke, stability wise the mid/forefoot strike area is pretty wide and generally stable but the heal is narrow and high stack so may be a problem on uneven technical terrain. They also have a distinct rocker to get you onto forefoot. There are cut outs at sides showing the rods that make them a little less stable.

Got a hilly ultra coming up next March am also just starting to train with poles. I went for the leki neo trail, similar to these but without the shark system. Didn't fancy wearing the glives.

I have the previous Speed ultra which I really liked for the lightness but they are a bit tight fir my wide feet . I am assuming these would be the better choice of successor as the Ultra looks to be too high and cushioned for me ?

@@guzgrant I have wide feet and the original Ultra version too. I feel the new Agravic Speed would be good but there are a few low overlays at side that could be a hotspot at the start until broken in. Took me about 20 miles.

Majority of my daily runs are between 10 -15 miles so I dont really need too much protection .out of interest , why did you send the ultra version back ? Its for me a bit of a waste to own a more cushioned uktra shoe just for events so I generally just stretch out my daily shoe on the day and accept the tiredness as inexorable.

@@guzgrant the Original Agravic ultras were sent back as the UK9 came up too large so had to size down to 8.5. They are my go to race day shoes now for 50-100 mile races. Recently got won and CR the Uk Ultra SD100 in them. I’ll also wear them for Lakeland100 next week.

@@guzgrant Thanks for watching video and reply. The Ultras worked well for the 100 with large rocker and cushioning on dryish trails to protect the legs over such a long distance. The Agravic speeds could stretch out to a 50 miler, the foam is a firm responsive ride and may feel it in the legs in latter stages. Great for getting up/down hills for racing dryish trails. I wore the Zinal 2 for the ARC50 and they were pretty low stack lightweight shoe. Felt it at the end. Guess it helps to have a good form.

@@re7qi yep I’m still using them for short faster dry trail runs. They seem fine, the upper hotspot problem settled after about 20 miles. The lugs wear out fast if used on road so I try to stick to trail.

I am at 300k. Totally agree I love the roomey toe box so much. It's better than any other but it's not as stable as I would like. You do get used to plate over time and I enjoy it for faster sessions. Rumors around that they are not doing a newer version.

Sounds like a good bit of fun mate. Might have to give this a whirl. Some top tips as always mate. You could also add the segment notifications on your watch to track you progress and pace for the specific srgment youre running but that will need a bit of prep before hand. Keep the vids coming mate. 😎🤘

@@ianfraser747 I do feel the ‘speed ultra’ has good stability due to the width of the mid/forefoot landing area. This helps when running with good form. Long ultras hard to achieve with late stage fatigue. With regards to the technical terrain suitability, I have not managed to do a recce of the Lakeland course and first time competing so not totally sure at this stage. If really wet the lack of lug depth could be a problem but pace could be made up on the road/hard packed sections. Good question.

I’ve got 681 miles on mine and feel they are done. The cushioning, although still there, is noticeably lessened, and the outsole is finally showing wear. All my other Hoka shoes are definitely finished at 400 miles. Fantastic shoe and worth the price if they fit your foot. Hope you are well Tom!

V similar weight. I feel the MS4 has a far superior dual density Profly + midsole and better upper and aggressive grip. More flexible for technical terrain, a lot more comfy. Great for ultras etc.

@@jakegreenwood6331 Totally different types of shoes. 🙂 Terrex Agravic Speed Ultra for 50-100 mile racing. Lighter faster…Hands down. MS4 for training comfort workhorse and maybe technical downhills. I have thought abt having them in drop bag for late stage ultras but shied away at last minute for lighter faster Tecton X (not as comfy but more speed oriented)

These poles are very fragile! I would not recommend them over their standard poles unless you are just very weight conscious. I snapped a pole when I wasn't even strapped in. All that said, love them otherwise and they are extremely light weight. The store I bought them from replaced them for me, so they are still the pole I use but only in races and not on downhills.

Nice video mate. Now I see these shoes on discount on the adidas website and I am just unsure about the sizing. Mixed reviews advice to go half a size down but some say that they fit true to size. What would you recommend? I currently wear size 8 bostons but they fit just right with thin socks

I love everything about these shoes except the tongue. Its a bit short and i get a good bit of bite when i try to get a good lockdown for going downhill fast. Other than that, i am loving them!

I put in tongue pads to combat this. I have to do the same for the Pro 3 road shoes. Really only my right foot top tendons give me a problem but I do both shoes just so they don't feel different. This definitely makes it easier to get a proper lockdown for the descents (and to prevent heel slippage on the ascents). I love this shoe.

Ive got the terrex speed pro sg and think rhey are the best fell shoe ever made. I wish i could find the 190s in a size 9 anywhere because I'd snap them up.

I totally agree, the SG is an amazing shoe: grip, weight, drainage. Has been my go to for short muddy races for last few years. The 190s are also a great shoe for minimal racing and lower leg training, forces good form and proper rock plate. I’ll keep an eye out for any for sale.

Took x2 machine washes to get clean, bit of creasing on LS Pro foam and discolouration of exposed foam on sole. One way to wear out a shoe fast…

Thanks for the message. Purely on road they performed really well. The only noticeable difference would be the ease of high turn over due to the increased weight as an example speed ultra 260g vs Adios Pro 3 at 215g (UK9). The foam on road shoes tends to also be a bit softer as well to cushion off a stable surface.

To go even lighter e.g. Takumi Sen 9 at 198g the shoe just disappears on your feet and easy generate v high turn over for sprint finish shorter racing.

@@27johnny TS9 I would take up to half marathon (depending on how light you are, running form etc). Vaporfly also great for HM. TS9 shines at 5-10km. Marathon it’s hard to beat the Alphafly OG, Adios Pro 3 nice too for 26.2.
