It's one thing to see the facsimile of a human being, but to capture a bit of their soulfulness in that image, wow...off the charts talent.

This isn’t sculpture. It’s computer generated art. Prove you can sculpture this in stone via relief or with clay.

Sculpt it in stone with clay? Sounds hard. No thanks

The video started giving me some hope.... which instantly evaporated at "this is my first ever character in Unreal. I'm not going to be too hard on myself for it, cause it was was my first". Aaaaaaand now I'm depressed xD

It wasn’t my first character I ever made and I’d been doing 3d modeling for at least 4 years at that point

currently doing my BFA digital production with emphasis in vfx, however I don't feel connected with coding and Houdini, and constantly doubting myself if one day I'm gonna be good enough to be hired. I feel I enjoy more the real artistic aspect of 3D art by modeling, texturing, etc. What advise would you give for a young artist or student that has doubts constantly? sorry my English! thanks for the video!

If you’re asking if studios use that to make characters for their games, no.

I'm studying to get into one of the best animation schools in my country this year, and I've been wanting to work as a game character artist for so long. Unfortunately I've had so many people around me that tried to change my mind and tell me how it's really hard to get somewhere in the industry. This video gives me some hope, thank you for that.

Hi J Hill. I am new to character art and learning from your videos. I got your brush pack. Following your steps I reached the stage where I am breaking up the skin pattern with stretch lines. With the fine wrinkles brush in the pack, I am not getting the desired result as per the video. With a low intensity and the same alpha applied with color spray strokes the result I am getting is similar to a standard brush which pushes/deepens the surface within the brush circle along with the line strokes. I am not able to simply apply the lines around the pores instead as you showed. Intensity is at around 6 and sdiv. 7 with 28mil polycount. My temporary workaround was to invert the alpha to only effect the lines. Could you please help me out on this? Thanks for the detailed guide.

Hello, I am very interested in the topic of copying characters from comics, not creating a 3D figure from scratch, but copying a character from a comic, could you tell me how much such a service would cost? I saw several comics with cool characters, but unfortunately I couldn't find them in 3D printing anywhere

This is awesome man thank you so much for the transparency. I wish more people with your level of experience in various roles in the industry felt comfortable sharing this much. The level of success you've achieved is definitely the goal although I don't think I'll find it with character art at least not in a studio job. I'd already been looking into digital product sales and you've reinforced for me that this is the way to go for now, especially with Fab coming up. I don't have any delusions about it replacing a "real job" but theres definitely some money to be made while simultaneously producing a portfolio.

Hi J, I'm currently finishing up a grad program from Academy of Art University this semester in animation/vfx with an emphasis in 3D modeling. I love what I do and am excited for the future, but I've been really anxious lately about being a newbie in this tough market. This video was really great for me to watch/hear right now, especially the bits about freelancing and passive income. Thank you so much for this info!!

For tip 9, I've seen people just use polypaint where they want the separation, then generate polygroups from polypaint and then zremesh (keep groups). I feel like that would be the easiest/cleanest way to get zm to create the needed loops.
