My wife and I visited Cornerfield just before Thanksgiving 2022 and we were both just stunned by the shear scope and magnitude of the layout and the amazing attention to detail. Cornerfield is a must-visit museum and layout for anyone who enjoys model railroading.

Everyone wanted wheel slip, this is what you get. First issue items with new features will always have bugs. This is just a simple programming issue. Lionel will make it right in the end.

Quite interesting, for sure. This shouldn't happen on any locomotive, at any price point. I don't blame you for not sending it out, it may take them a year, just to fix and return it. It would be much better if they had a software update that a dealer could provide. Lionel just ain't that proactive, unfortunately. Either way, it was nice talking to you at the Modular on Thursday evening. It's always a pleasure meeting other hobbyists and fellow KZbinrs and talking shop. An excellent video, as always.

I have the 1944 and the 5014 and both run as they should using the cab 2 . I did have a problem with the 1944 running in conventional mode. tender wheels running in reverse or not even moving. Hope things get better.

Latest update from Dave at Lionel. He thinks it is solvable with a CAB3 App update. He said they should know by end of next week.

It really feels like theres some sort of signal issue, like a floating ground or board A isnt communicating to board B properly. Lionel really needs to figure it out.

My Lionel repair guy and I kept telling people not to waste their time buying this engine, and like always, no one listened. It's just a nightmare.

This is why I only run engines conventionally none of this BS happening

I guess I'm one of the fortunate ones. My PRR triplex from Brad'y's and unpainted triplex model run well.

This has to be frustrating for so many Triplex owners to spend this kind of money on an engine to have this many of them with issues is unacceptable by lionel

Would something like this happen if you were to make a consistent up of multiple engines and ran them?

The more of that overly complicated outlandishly priced stuff you buy the more problems you are likely to have. It's Lionel afterall.

Can you test one more thing too. The instructions say that ID 0000 is the universal one to control all 4-digit engines. Did not work for me, can you test that out? 99 still worked even in 4D mode, but 0000 did not. I asked them about that too.

I think Dave at Lionel is trying to diagnose, but at least send a TalktoUs to get more incidents documented. See what they say. I am still waiting for a second response and Dave has responded on OGR forum.

Hey Steve so sorry still having issue with your Triplex I myself which is told you at York have the Virginian Triplex and it has hate to say it running perfectly since I took it out of the box

I sent my 5015 Triplex back to lionel. They replaced both boards and tested it all while emaling me there progress. Within 10 days i had it back and it worked as expected. It was good to know that loinel handled the problem immediately and resolved it. My advice would be to contact loinel and send it back .

This loco was a failure for the Erie and I’m surprised Lionel actually spent the money to engineer this, especially given the price. It looks cool but even if I could afford it, it wouldn’t run on my layout. Perhaps they were hoping for another Turbine style sales win. I am sure they will make good on any issues if possible.

Could you imagine if a TriPlex was to haul our Troops Off to War. The War would be over before they would have arrived as Top Speed was only 10 mph. Sorry about troubles with your Engine. This is why I stay away from High Priced Lionel Engines. Now as soon MTH re,-releases their New TriPlex I might be Game for one.

Maybe you should send it back sooner than later before it gets worse . I'm not a tech guy so that's what i would do. I hope things work out for ya

That’s pretty incredible. As annoying as may be, Lionel will make good on this. Yes it’s an inconvenience, but like the cars and trucks we drive, there are recalls on certain models. Things do happen unfortunately. Nothing is perfect all of the time, but what is good, is a company taking care of its customer(s). I know Lionel will take care of you and others that are experiencing problems with theirs. I hope everything turns out well for you no matter what. Tom

I am so sorry you are having these issues with such a high-end model. I have the 2003 MTH model and I believe I'll hang on to it and not bother with this flawed Lionel model. About a year ago, I bought the Visionline N&W 1218 and it has caused absolutely no problems whatsoever, I guess I am very fortunate.
