Hey great video! I am encountering a small problem, my source drop down menu doesn't show "Character" at 13:52. It only shows "Stance" and "Control Rig". Can you tell me what I could be doing wrong? I'm using MotionBuilder 2023

Sorry for the late reply, i'm sure you figured it out by now, however it feels that you should always make sure that you have 2 characters defined in the HIK, if it fails, simply open a new file, import each character and Characterized them one by one, you should have no issues.

@@3d_4_dummies im having this same issue. They both show up in the navigator and both show up in the Character drop down. The source drop down is not showing the Mixamo one. Update Tried making 3 new files and finally got it to work

@@chadswanson2295 glad it did, mobu is extremely focused on clean HIK, positioned right, however once each file with one character is saved , you can then merge them with other mocap characters.

Is it the same process with a pull over hoodie or Jackie on a human character because I’ve follow the directions to a t but my cloth is coming in invisible there is a single polygon there my simulated cloth is of a guy doing a back flip with a sword is that to complexed for this system or are there other steps I should take

Yes, be careful, make sure you scale the ribbon through its main TRS control, it should work, if not, you can send me your file, ill take a look at it.

@@3d_4_dummies after i did a bit of clean up with the double groups! I ran into a problem with the top ribbon only, it doesn't go straight anymore and the controller doesn't move anymore! It just twists weirdly while the bottom one does straighten and extend correctly! is there a way to fix this?

hey man great stuff. im researching mobu because we use Xsense and im sure you know just how dirty that data can get. weve been using Maya this whole time for cleanup so im diving into mobu. do you know if we can stream live to mobu? maybe a plugin we can buy? im looking forward to watching these cuz youre straight to the point and I love it. thanks much and youll probably be hearing from me a lot ha ha. have a great weekend bro

Looks interesting. But: What is the Difference between Maya and Motion Builder? Can Motion Builder record and convert from Videos (MP4) into FBX in Version 2024?

Both software are very different I would never use motionbuilder for rendering, modeling or vfx, it is specifically made to retarget animations , live recordings and clean ups .

@@achimschnick4890 Yes live recording mocap actors in Optical or Inertia motion Capture such as Motive, Axis Neuron, Rokoko, Optitrack and more. I'm also researching AI mocap with MOVE AI ,DEEPMOTION too but those also need major clean up, that's where motion builder steps in lol.

Thank you for this. Why does your first frame start the character in a different direction? Then the animation suddenly flips character to the other axis? Is this something that is common for animation industry?

Hello, and thank you, we usually have a t-pose on the first frame, sometimes the t-post can be at -1 frame , but it helps retargeting animation quickly.

It’s actually a pretty simple process If you want, just grab the shelf and open the all script and simply copy the data It’s absolutely basic just freeze transform history and center pivot combined

@@3d_4_dummies yes so when I export the mesh into unreal, it doesn’t register the animation, probably because I didn’t do something right. Not sure. Also when I try to move the mid string joint of the bowstring in unreal it only moves one joint. There are no control rigs or constraints being exported from Maya. I’m using game exporter because regular export continues to give me errors.

lol shoutout to the yay guy. My string wont stretch and youre yaying lol UPDATE: I binded parts of my rig when the mesh was still combined. So without knowing the string and body of bow were binded to the same 'bones' so to speak. I undid, seperated the string from the bow added divisions and it was fine. Thank you so much for this video.

Thanks heaps for your fbx rig. works perfectly, except for one thing. The left pinky finger was assigned to the right pinky bone and vice versa. Simple enough to fix... For others, if you're reading this. In the Metahuman Definition validation display, expand one of the hands by clicking on the little down arrow in the circle. You will notice the names of the bones they are assigned to when you roll over them. Check if the pink is linked to the correct hand. If not. Select the correct pink_03 bone in the Navigator scene under the "f_med_nrw_body" rig. Then go back to the "Definition" view, and click the lock icon to unlock the rig. Right-click on the pinky and assign the selected bone. Follow the prompts to replace. It should swap the other pinky over for you. Lock the rig again and I recommend saving the file as a different name.

Great observation! And thank you for the healthy tip. I will make sure to double check it tomorrow. The meta-humans characters in 5.1 and 5.2 currently have somehow of a different setting for animation imports, but very similar to older versions. Just be careful!
