While I personally think Luke would have let Grogu keep the armor if he chose the lightsaber, the choice was not about objectism, but attachment. It was Luke clinging to the ways of old.

I don't like what Disney did here, in the original cannon Luke actually encouraged connections, marriage, and relationships from his Jedi pupils, telling them that having this understanding would help them understand others and better encourage them to do the right thing.
