Sounds like the op all went well! Glad to see / hear that! You've got some stunning little routes there by the looks :) An idea for your hydration ( especially if you're planning on using something like tailwind ) - use the soft flasks (front bladders ), for your drinkable nutrition (tailwind) and then have your main bladder with just water. Its how I approached DBR in 23. I learnt the hard way about not having plain water with me in a race, where I just couldn't face drinking my nutrition, to the point, that I dehydrated myself. Love the visualising! Its an underrated tool by so many! I tell myself things as statements - " I will finish before its dark ", " I will complete DBR ", and anytime anyone tried to be negative towards my ability, I just reinforced to them, that " I will finish it and I'm not worried about the challenge".

Hey Steve! I've been training in zone 2 mainly this past month, i have to admit I haven't been as on the ball as you at tracking myself, but i am managing to talk fairly easy on my long runs, including the recovery runs. I raise the tempo on my hill repeats and slot in intervals on a 2 weekly basis depending on the goal. I have a challenge coming up in just over a week so tapering a little now. I will say again I will have to get the bike out too.. Do you do any strength training??

Good job on the Zone 2 mate. Its tough when you first start doing it! My little "tip", is that you should feel guilty about how easy it is. Are you basing your Zone 2, on the MAF180 formula? OR have you had your lactate threshold tested and HR zones based on those findings? Well done on another week of training!
@StevenRead-qg6psАй бұрын
Thanks for your input Will. At the moment I’m using calculations based on Heart Rate Reserve which pretty much correlate with the zones my Strava account calculates. The Garmin stats are much lower with a zone 2 max of 124. I may practice a little this week with maxing out at more like 125 area just to see how I feel and what pace this actually is. It’s been quite an eye opener. Might investigate a lactate test kit for more accuracy.
@willtptАй бұрын
Interesting. I've never read anything about using HRR to calculate zones. I'll have a look into this! The MAF180 equation, is 180 minus your age, to give you an approximate zone 2 HR value. Then depending on the fitness of the individual, it could be a little higher or lower. I've never had a lactate test myself but it's something I'm intending on looking into - getting done and also being able to do the testing.
@StevenRead-qg6psАй бұрын
@@willtpt cool. Let us know where you get lactate tests done - yeah, this heart rate reserve thing is interesting as I was thinking about my Garmin and how it calculates zones based on max HR alone and intuitively the thought entered my head “surely one’s resting heart rate is a factor too because it provides one with a larger range”. It was then that KZbin did its usual magic and popped a video all about using Heart Rate Range in the calculation. I think Strava uses this method as the zone 2 on Strava is much more appropriate to my level of fitness than the range in Garmin.

Smashing time, spreadsheet looks fun but are you counting the elevation against the milage as well ? Look forward to following your journey and looks like will see you on the Raw recce :)
@StevenRead-qg6psАй бұрын
@@jamesmoore6587 yeah the elevation will need to be factored. The MPW are all “Essex Miles” and when I hit the hills I’ll take an 11 mins mile pace as a time on feet gauge. Thus, if I am out for say 220 mins of run time, I’ll call that 20 Essex Miles. Do you recon this is a sensible approach?

That's an impressive mile time! Sounds like you've had a good week so far.
@jennyread9013Ай бұрын

@willtpt2 ай бұрын
I like the mind map, great idea! Might have to steal it for myself. Just a quick thing to maybe consider for yourself, is to look at your total time for training - especially on your hillier / elevation runs. Last year for me, when I was doing race day specific sessions (400ft elevation per mile) I would only get approx. 21 miles in a 6 hour session - this could make it hard to hit a 100 mile week
@StevenRead-qg6ps2 ай бұрын
@@willtpt excellent advice. Yeah I think I will use a factor of 11 minute flat Essex miles so if I am planning 20 miler that will instead be 20 x 11 mins time on feet. Cheers. 👍🏻

My heart is ok but knees and hips are shot from years of running up and down mountains 😢 only in my mid 40's cant do anything like I used to without being in pain not even cycling, its had a negative effects on my mental health and I am severely depressed, so I think it doesn't matter if its heart, knees, hips, back.......anything physical that stops your quality of life is equally bad.

Totally understand - yes, I titled this Heart because that’s the issue here at the moment but you are right, it could be a big toe or anything. If it stops us doing what we love then the affect is the same. I hope that you find a way through. Exercise is such a key component of mental well-being as well as physical as you rightly state. ❤️
