Throwback was a great group. Easy gold with the numbers they were putting up if they had competed earlier on. Groups are scoring so crazy high now.

Even better voicing than the version they won with. Sad that Swedes sing better American English than Americans do.

Thank you NYT Connections for introducing me to Barbershop music and thank you Jason Fieler for showing me what feels like a century's worth of Batbershop lore omg like why does this run so deep and does the audience understand all these references?? Is this common knowledge? Where have I been living???
@jasonfielerКүн бұрын
Hey thanks for watching! The reason the audience is so knowledgeable is because this was performed at the 2023 Barbershop Harmony Society international convention Quartet Contest Finals (lots of words sorry), so they were competing to win the entire contest and be the best quartet in the world. This is the most well attended event of the entire BHS annual international convention, and the audience is full of people who have been following the contest for not only this cycle/year, but also probably for many many years prior to this performance, so they tend to know lots of the information being presented and joked about. I like to compare it to if a football team at the super bowl started making jokes and references about the history of their team and their opponents' team, whether it be past wins/losses, histories of specific players on the team, their fan bases, their coaching staff, or whatever, and everyone watching absolutely loving it because they're so into all that stuff since they've been following it for so long. It's exactly the same thing here, it's just that a lot fewer people know about it, but there's still just as much lore and intrigue to go around! Hope you find more barbershop videos you like and I hope you have a great day!
@orfeassiozos157523 сағат бұрын
@@jasonfieler Thank you for the detailed reply!! I actually just watched the repise of that same song from this year's BHS convention (I think) and it was lots of fun. I may not know a lot about Barbershop prior to now, but I have absolutely been in many fandoms myself and have found joy in following along with competitions and niche interests so I definitely get what the audience's hype is all about and it fills me with joy discovering another thing that makes people feel passion! I hope you have a wonderful day as well and rest assured you just created a new barbershop fan hahah

The original key is B I'm pretty sure (based on other performances); in this performance they just ended up sharping it over the course of the song a little more toward C

Something always seemed off about this tag and i just figured out why. The high A on the second to last note is sung by the tenor David, and the G on the last note is sung by the lead Theo. However, their voices blend so well that it legitimately sounds like one voice just moving down a step. They do such a good job of making that pop

They come from my chapter and put up with my Dad jokes. Secondly I rather like them as people who haven't let success go to their heads. They share their tagging joy with anyone at break, and afterglow. We know how good they are. Will they win? They have the potential and skill to do so.

I was 25 and Marquis came to the BABS Convention in 1996. I was really raw and knew nothing about barbershop in any depth. Marquis were our star guests that year and blew me out of the park. Randy Chisholm signed my cassette and I had my first barbershop hero. So internally sad when he passed away in 1997. He was true master at selling a love song to an audience.
