This was a really good video. I liked the part where you talked about how if you are jealous it is a way of admitting that you are "less than." I think this is a good way to view it. While I have felt moments of jealousy in my romantic life over the years I really don't ever feel envious of the success of others. It just never really occurred to me that I should. Props to the Rocky quote. I also resonated with that speech the first time I heard it. While I am in a comfortable spot overall in my life now, that wasn't always the case. If I had given up back then or resorted to being angry and bitter at everyone around me when I failed, I would not be in the place that I am now. Even with saying that I do know how easy it is to want to lay down and just not get up again. Giving up when you lose everything is alluring, for sure. Last thing: loved the Bakuman clips! That show/manga doesn't get enough attention, in my opinion.

I’m glad you thought so, thanks for telling me, it helps a lot! Love finding people like you, not even thinking about envying others - I prefer to be close to people like you in this community It’s a great speech! So cool you’ve been so strong (you didn’t phrase it like that but I think you are), probably those were hard times. All of this resilience and having the fortress of character is proved in the hard times a lot of the time after all. Congratulations for getting up ;v; It’s indeed hard. Yep, Bakuman is my favorite anime! What character do you relate more “towards”? If you want. Thank you for being here, Clay!

How do you personally deal with stress? (」><)」
@neddyf0010 күн бұрын
Having a walk is pretty good for that... Talking with "safe zone" friends can help too... I'm curious if you have some suggestions to draw faster with digital inking ? I tend to be slow and erase my last line many time before I got satisfied.
@MGComics10 күн бұрын
Perfect suggestions tbh! Mm I’m actually super slow with line art as well, though I notice If I have a more detailed sketch I may hesitate less and I end up more satisfied. I use 2 layers for sketching, 1 the general structure (I call it HB and it’s blue) and the other very similar to the final product (I call it sketch - I save time by drawing almost everyone naked and bald so when I put clothes and hair their proportions are a little better). And if possible I take pictures of myself if the pose is hard - Does this help?
@claytruant233010 күн бұрын
Similar to the other comment I like to go for a walk, or just to get outside in general. Other things that can help me are to organize/clean up stuff, or to engage in mindless "scribble sketching." If the stress isn't too bad I can also read, though if I'm too stressed out I can't focus on what I am reading.
@MGComics10 күн бұрын
@claytruant2330 I hadn’t heard of scribble sketching! I should try it out - And I relate to the reading while stressed ;-; Thanks for being here, Clay!
@neddyf0010 күн бұрын
@@MGComics Yes, it helps. I have kind of similar method, but then to use grey instead of blue. making it hard to visualize. I should definitely give a try to blue as well ! Just o be sure. you add the hair and clothes on sketch layer, or directly when inking ? (Sorry, english is not my mother language) ^^;

How well have Vision boards worked for you in the past? I find them tricky what message to give myself when it comes to bigger goals.
@MGComics11 күн бұрын
I agree! Well in the past I think I put delusional things in my vision board or things that went against my core beliefs. (For example I put an expensive Canadian school in there.... while I didn't want to use my time to earn the money to go there nor ask parents for help, so obviously that didn't happen even if they did grant scholarships). So I think we have to really think on the path to get to where we want to go. The vision board helps on the action for me because even when learning to draw you start with the boring stuff sometimes, like circles... but if you have the vision of where you could go (amazing artists I admire) it keeps motivation :') How do you do your vision boards?

Do you think story prologues are necessary? What do you prefer when you read a story?
@kurioscomicsАй бұрын
Short prologues. But I dont think they are neccessary most of the time.
@MGComicsАй бұрын
I like that answer tbh ^^ I did one in the past but I’m thinking it’s redundant. thank you!
@claytruant233023 күн бұрын
While I don't always think prologues are necessary, I think it really depends on the story being told. A good example of a prologue, in my opinion, is the one in A Game of Thrones. It establishes the Others as a looming threat while also hinting at the mystical elements of the world itself long before any of those elements are actually introduced into the main story. It keeps those elements from coming seemingly out of nowhere and sets up what the events of the larger narrative are going to be about without the use of a throwaway chapter in the main story.
@MGComics23 күн бұрын
@claytruant2330 You’re totally right! Forgot about that in GOT - Also it ties because the guy they kill in the first episode was like a watcher, right? And he told Ned about the threat… But because we saw it ourselves we know there are urgent things coming. You were brilliant, thank you! - it helps sm to write better

You just need to get used to it. At first indeed it’s a bit uncomfortable. It’s cheaper than the ones with a screen and tbh I have back pain problems so I think I’ll use one like this forever. Who will come across her path in a cabin trapped by the snow? What life threatening challenges will she face from human, animal, and weather conditions? And her character design is appealing. Team Helena over here.😊

My problem mostly is, that I am a full-time graphic designer during the day - and only after my work I am able to sketch/be creative. I often realize that I am then out of energy and grabbing the phone, looking through Insta/Pinterest or watching videos of other people doing art is so much easier... It's really sad and some times I am able to break this fatique cycle, but I would to do more. Anyway, I do other stuff too (dancing, playing an instrument), so my time is limited anyway. I thought I can bring myself to draw a little thing everyday since the beginning of the year, but I failed misserably. XD Anyway, I don't give up. Sometimes I really wish I have all my day to do what I like to do right in that moment. But hey, I will find my way. :) Thanks for this lovely video anyway, some really nice tipps!

@@MGComics Awww thanks for your sweet comment. I appreciate it. Oh yes, sometimes all that stuff is too much - but mostly I love all of what I do and I even realize I need it. For me I realized it goes in phases what I prefer/do more at a special time. So, dancing is like my thing I do through the whole year and most regularly (only in summer there is some sort of vacation in my dancing school, but I also do pair dancing with my partner since last year, so now we make a Westcoast Swing course and we love it!). Playing violin is a bit on a hold right now, I do it only when I have the right mood or there is a festivity where I make music with my sisters. :) Drawing is a bit of a "hole-filler" right now and when I am in the right mood. Sometimes I would love to do more, but I know I cannot force myself into it too much because I don't want it to become bitter for me. So I accept it as it is right now. Anyway, I am more into linocut printing right now - as I am taking part in a little market in November, where I will sell printed cards, notebooks etc. So I guess this also counts as drawing/being creative anyway. :D Sorry for my long text, I just love to see how full-time artists work and it's so awesome to watch such videos as yours and how you are doing what you do. Thank you so much again for that video, it inspires me. :)
