Was my first time removing a door so I used this video for my 89 GMC 1500 yesterday-appreciate it! Thanks

I just use 2 jack stands equally spaced. Raise to the height you need. To prevent scratches...put towels between door(s) and jack stand. Not all of us have overhead support 🤡

What About The Wires That Goes Through The Door
@scottpdotnetАй бұрын
This truck was all manual and the focus was on the hinges and lifting the door itself. For the wires on a power model you would need to remove the door panel, disconnect everything, and feed out the grommet facing the door jam.

Do you wanna sand down to the primer or just sand the clear coat off?
@scottpdotnet2 жыл бұрын
It depends on the condition of the paint. If it isn't chipped/flaking off and looks to be a good base, don't worry about taking it down to the primer.

Wouldn't it be a bit easier to drive the pins out with the door closed?? You had full access with the fender off.. 🤔 you knew that right?

Yeap, but many may not want to remove a fender to get at them :-)

It’s great to see DIY guys and gals doing there own work electricians charge so much anymore if your comfortable and knowledgeable of home wiring it really irritates these electricians because they can’t get your money .

Good idea with the rafters! I think I'll use my engine hoist because my garage doesn't have rafters visible. Thanks for the idea, tho. I was thinking of jacking it from the bottom and doing something sketchy with zip ties before lol edit: it would have been good to show how to take the electrical connections off first
@better_than_nothing2 жыл бұрын
If you look closely, you'll notice that his doors are manual locks and manual windows. He had no electrical connections.
@RobertJeffersonBased2 жыл бұрын
@@better_than_nothing I found out it's actually easy. Just take the rubber boot thing and yoink on it until you're getting the wiring up and out of the inside of the car. Pull it out of there until the connections are free and then undo them. Not bad, just I didn't know that's how it's done.
@RobertJeffersonBased2 жыл бұрын
I ended up using an engine hoist and some rope to lift the door off and on.

Great work. Future reference though when sending a metal finder use a 320 to 400 grit before priming. If you use anything over a 400 grit primer will have trouble sticking.
@richreece88407 ай бұрын
You won’t have trouble sticking over 400- can go up to 800, doing it for years ……. O cone backs

Why did you use rigid steel conduit instead of pvc rigid conduit
@scottpdotnet4 жыл бұрын
Honestly, I can't remember if this was a local codes item or not. In general, it being outside, the fact the metal adds additional strength, etc - in my mind it is cheap insurance, as this is an area one would never plan on touching again. Plus it was steel before (old original service), so I was able to reuse parts of it.
@thomasmarable68184 жыл бұрын
@@scottpdotnet yes the mast I understand by code because the service is attached it has to be but from the meter to panel I never run steel always pvc it's cheaper and easier to work with. No bond bushing required sometimes it has to be sch 80 instead of sch40 but still easier no threading that heavy steel.
