I think 'Do Unto Me' would've been another 'Superwoman' hit. Someone said this was actually a single which I didn't hear on the radio back in '91.

I wish someone would upload the Arsenio Hall performance she did for this album in which she performed 'Romantic' and 'The Way I feel about you' with these same lovely backup dancers. Also, the Tina Turner tribute she, Stephanie Mills, and Chanté Moore performed at the Essence Awards (I think).

Berry Gordy was an astute businessman, but if you crossed him - WATCH OUT!! He would try to crush you, and that's his EVIL side come to the fore. He's still alive today, there's a reason they say only the good die young.

I don't agree with the assessment that soul can't be "appropriated" by those looking for money and success. Just look at Michael Bolton. He got so full of himself as a "white soul" singer that he wouldn't even acknowledgethe soul greats that came before him. He eventually started stealing it. As soon as he was found guilty of stealing an Isley Brothers song, his name was MUD, and rightfully so. I never could stand him. Same with Paul Young, although he was a bit more reverent about the soul greats.

I call her "The Deaconess of Soul"....nobody like her. And her, Al Green, Sam Moore, Smokey R, Stevie Wonder, Patti LaBelle, Otis Williams, Dionne Warwick, Martha Reeves, Eddie Levert, Walter Williams, Gladys K and her big bro, Bubba...and very few others, are basically whats left of the old chitlun' circuit. All of Mavis's immediate family, are gone.

Studio vocals are not always the way to go. You should do her live vocals. She has rarely duplicated her studios, live.

What's the episode's date? I'm wondering if it's really 'Apollo' and if they returned to the show to sing the same songs. Here are their other Apollo performances: 10/13/90 “Hold On” and “Lies” wearing black & white stripes. Hosted by Sinbad. 5/4/91 “Don’t Go” and “You Don’t Have to Worry” wearing black & white, no stripes. Hosted by Sinbad.
