Such a shame the 20 series got abandoned in the 2000s - hopefully it will be revived one day ! 21 is such a fun game - I wish there were others of that genre !

Interesting - which ones ? I'm curious because when I compiled this list, I created the difficulty by sorting the games by number of steam reviews. To my surprise, some games I've not heard of ended up in the easy category along with lots of others I thought were quite mediocre and assumed aren't popular. And as usual, my favourites being obscure which end up in the hard category :(

9 and 21 were completely unfamiliar, for 12 I *might* have heard the name before. And yeah, going by review numbers can have that effect, some easy ones were pretty hard, but still, pretty good system I think.

@@cchutney348 9 - I have not played, it got a lot of hype back then with lots of positive reviews ... but 5 years later, it's STILL in early access so I'm not trying it yet. 21 - is a very short game trying to teach about an event in history. The truly outstanding thing about it is the visual, i've never seen anything like it since. 12 - I can recommend. While it does have overwhelmingly positive reviews, I found the endgame a bit of a let down. Very good game otherwise if you enjoy turn-based RPGs!

Graphics & gameplay are very outdated for the 2000s, but it was such a great game!

My exact reaction! I recognized some of these games, some other I didn't, but the only one that actually made me feel some nostalgia was Gun. Damn awesome game.

Hehe I think so too. For number 1, I had to put the easiest one first ;) - for the second, I'm told my RTS pics are very difficult for those who aren't fans. Don't think I remember any gamer in the 90s who didn't play them, they were everywhere ! But that's probably just be my bias toward some genres.

@@VideoGameQuizChannel I disagree, I guessed the second game without ever playing it. The art style is kind of specific and the picture of the woman is still very well known even for people who never played it.

Hey - thank you for the feedback. That is a good idea, but it will likely work better with my standard quiz format. For this character format I try to pick characters/enemies that are present in multiple games (sometimes all the way up to the present), but I could include the year of the game where the picture is from. :)

Not sure how I missed your comment :O Septerra core is one of my fav JRPG. I don't really like the genre, couldn't get into classics like FinalFantasy/Chrono Trigger etc but I somehow got really hooked to this one. Not quite sure what it was that made it different. For Pandemonium 2, I've only played the demo and wasn't very impressed. Wasn't bad at all, just much better ones out there at the time.

Also, maybe I'm just slow, but I always play quizes like these with pause 😑

Hehe - I honestly wouldn't be able to ID the exact Kirby game either, lots of them merged in my head. House of the Dead I actually played in Arcades ! I much prefered Typing of the Dead on PC :) Giants had lots of hype before coming out, but I didn't really enjoy it. Quite sad about how obscure Captain Claw is. Because it was one of my favs I always thought it's more popular than it really was. Same with Age of Wonders, played that for so long. Shame the sequels weren't that great. Drakan was the first game I played where you can just ride a dragon, fight others and land anywhere. It was mindblowing at the time :D. The flying music is still stuck in my head. :)

That's a very good score - Easy to mix RedAlert & C&C1 up, the giveaway for me is; RedAlert has my local powerstation (also featured on the PinkFloyd Animals album cover 😊) Sacrifice is an interesting one, novel action-RPG-RTS concept, fun playstyle and good critic reviews at the time. Unfortunately it didn't appeal to too many people. :( Turok 2 is a very fun game, but it suffered from severe overhype before launch which soured reactions. Hope others remember it fondly.

17 is very good ! For the series, I'd still count it as point if you IDed the series but not the specific game itself. The graphics were not different enough between some of them to make it easy to ID the specific one (like the Oddworld or Magic Carpet series in this episode). Thank you for playing :)

Thank you for the praise, I'm glad you're enjoying it :) And those are very fair points. It is quite a hard task to determine "difficulty" fairly for games far in the past. My very rough guide is: - franchise surviving until the present day - me remembering how popular they were at the time from game magazines (a lot of these games I did not play at the time, but was very much aware of them because of constant coverage in games magazines and game news tv shows) - "cult classic" status that some games attained long after being released (like System Shock, Deus Ex, Planescape Torment. They might not have had amazing sales prices at the time, but nowadays they are considered one of the "best" of their genres - actual sales numbers which for some games it is easily available, for some it's not And of course my bias will be very obvious at times haha. Some of the easy games, I would not be able to ID myself and some of the hard ones are the easiest for me. "Pharaoh" is a good example. The "city-builder" genre is always about how a game compares to either Pharaoh or SimCity, which is why I put it as easy. But it's very understandable not to know it, if you weren't playing this genre at the time. For Gabriel Knight, that is one of my favourite point-and-click adventures! Unfortunately it seems that most people find picks from this genre to be the most difficult out of all of them. Quite sad as this genre was one of my favs in the 90s. For Gods, I have to admit, I had not played or heard of it until recently when I started researching for my quizes ! It was absolutely my bias showing as I only started playing games a lot more from the mid90s. Looking a bit closer, you are definitely right that it was popular, with high praise and recommendations across the board! Thank you again for your thoughts and your offer for suggestions! I currently have at least 11 episodes for the 90s planned out on paper (so 6 more episodes in this series). But after that, I might take you up on that offer :)
