Are those packraft as tippy as a white water kayak? Do they roll with the skirts?

I learned how to kayak roll with C to C method. I'm planning to learn my sweep roll next , as shown in the video.

Sweep is so much nicer in more situations, and easier on your shoulder. You’ll love it.

It's all in the way that you use the oar.While capsized underwater you just rotate your oar and you'll pop up on the other side but it's one complete motion like a propeller. I was amazed at how well it worked while I was at summer camp in 1983. Tellico Plains in eastern Tennessee!

You disabled comments on your "how to roll a kayak and how to teach a kayak roll", but I really wanted to compliment you on that video, so doing it here. 😀. I have been paddling and instructing for a while now and want to say that video is the best I've seen on how to teach a sweep roll. I share I with everyone who ever expresses interest in learning and or teaching a roll. Thanks for taking the time to post it and all your other videos. If your ever in Ontario Canada, feel welcome to reach out. Cheers.

"Teaching the 'out-and-away' movement, as you're showing here...will only totally CONFUSE a student...because they can't move their hands into the correct positions (from set-up to sweeping the blade out and away from the boat) WITH THEIR HANDS ABOVE THE BOAT. And anyway this guy isn't close to being ready to have the paddle in his hands...he needs a couple sessions of just doing poolside rolls (or linked hands with a teacher = even better). The hip-snap is the most important movement - obviously, because if that works, you don't even need a paddle. Beginners are usually VERY confused with the rather complex paddle movement that has to happen - actually it's NOT that complex...but it's complex because it's done underwater, upside down, so it seems complex...the student has to be in a place to be able to concentrate on that movement.

Would be great if you made of video of someone actually learning how to do the roll, instead of failing at multiple steps.

if you re-do the commentary on this video and give a bit more explanation into techniques as you use them this could fill the instructional video gap that's missing for the transfer to big water. examples of what i mean: steep drops you could mention that a good starting point is to slam your paddle onto your bow and hold it, that gets your spine in the right position so you dont injure yourself, also you mention the stomp and the strokes but don't mention that it includes lifting your feet and slamming them down as hard as you can. This is probably the only instructional i've seen for bigger drops on youtube it just needs a bit more explanation on what you're doing with your body than just your paddle strokes

Unlike kayaking, edging away from the turn on skiis or motorcycle generally would have disastrous results.
@madgoatspaddling6 жыл бұрын
Haha, yea it is only sea-kayaking that you edge the other way because they are so long. When river-kayaking you edge into your turn. :)
