if you have a chance you should read "Deep in a Dream" by James gavin. his life was truley tragic and he wasnt the greatest person. although his music was beatiful.

Chet never overplayed, never tried to "wow" people with technique. He was all about timing, emotion, and expression. This sets him apart.

And he played very fast in the 1980s too. Check out his many versions of Leaving, which start out very slow and then get very fast halfway in. He was very fast in a great version of Love Vibrations too. And on Arborway in Tokyo. There are many examples of Chet playing very fast, extremely subtle pieces. But yes, the emotion and restraint are always there.

Seriously what is the combination of drugs that makes this plausible. Is this the Eddy Xylophone quartet? Chet was too generous, unlike Miles.

What would be the recorded Chet Baker album closest to this? The sound of this concert is extremely cool and slick but yet very accessible… arguably some of his best work…

Man - Chet was ON parts 1-2 & 3!!! The other guys Groovin' High as well. Don't miss the drums with these Euro gentlemen displaying their impeccable time and solo mastery. Chet on trumpet sounds brighter than on fleuegel (of course). I like it better. I love any serviceable KZbin vids of Chet Baker. But this has got to be my fave. His vocals I can take or leave (dependin'). None here. Only jazz trumpet, keys, vibes, and bass ensemble cohesion at their finest! Thanks to the poster for sharing with the world. Thus making it a better place.

I’ve recently found Chet Baker on UTube since I saw his movie “Let’s Get Lost” in the 80’s in Tulsa, Oklahoma. I’ve watched many videos this past week of Chet and his life. I can’t form an opinion of this very talented man because of his heavy drug addiction. Except to say that I have started appreciating his musical talent. Although I don’t care for his singing voice. And I think his drug use thwarted his singing voice. But his instrumental talent in Jazz is undoubtedly the best. He is a genius in playing his instrument and playing Jazz. My heartfelt belief is that his indulgence of drugs made him into a very selfish man. In his movie I saw his wife and beautiful children in Oklahoma living in poverty without a way to contact him. And not knowing if and they would see him again. Where was his loyalty and dedication to his family? I guess he suffered from hurting others by dying at such an early age. RIP Chet Baker.

Chet was fine singer and musician long before drug addiction damaged him. He did take drugs early in his career but it didn’t seem to affect his music. I like him because of his music, what he did personally has little or relevance to me as I did not know him personally.

If drugs killed his singing voice then you'd enjoy his early vocal work? from the 50s and early 60s

Beverly, your thought is typical of an ignorant woman, but you aren't alone there as that is most typical. You look at the world around you purely from the perspective of what you feel is a man's purpose, which you feel is to be there for women. If women were more intelligent, which they aren't, they'd understand how serving women is not the purpose of a man's life. A man doesn't sit in the nest and wait for everything to be brought to him, things, feelings, an emotional tampon, he's has to go out in the world and struggle through it. Not that women don't either but men always do it alone whereas women always get a helping hand in EVERYTHING they do. You call him selfish without even knowing his reasons. I'll teach you. Most users of drugs use to escape temporarily from emotional pain. You don't know his history. Besides that you don't understand the pressures placed on men as all you've ever been used to is to have people there to bail you out. Don't be an ignorant female ignorant of the lives of men sat there in your comfortable little nest built and paid for by some man or other all your pointless life.
