With two iconic shows (midnight special and kirshner) in mind, such an eclectic show was almost screaming to be aired on either late Friday, or even late Saturday Night after SNL. It remains one of my all-time favorite variety shows, but I remember being bewildered by airing-time , (rip david and don.)

I love listening to young Harry when his New Orleans accent was still strong. He’s lost it over the years, sadly.

Sanborn's sound is epic. One in a million. He was the reason for me to pick up the sax. Forever grateful for that. RIP David.

Like I said in another video: It wasn’t just New Orleans; cable TV viewers in Gulfport-Biloxi, Miss. were entertained by those ads as well (even if they already have their own businesses). But despite the cable penetration, McKenzie’s never even thought about expanding to the Coast (I think the closest was in Slidell)!

"this white powder everywhere..." makes the deadly carcinogenic dust -full of asbestos, dioxins, lead, mercury & cadmium, etc. - sound almost benign, as the Head of the EPA at the time was trying to convince us it was.

So thankful for all the years of great music Pete provided. I was able to see him live and meet him afterward. Was also blessed enough to own one of his signature Leblanc "Big Easy" clarinets.

One of best music shows ever, it was great when musicians played other than their popular styles. I think this show was killed by the ridiculous times it would begin at.

He will be missed dearly by millions of fans & musicians. I remember as a kid staying up late on Friday to watch David Letterman to see/hear if he was sitting in with the band. I was always sitting in anticipation waiting for when the band kicked in (when Letterman would walk out) and hear that sweet crying bluesy alto penetrate thru the band into the studio audience! Thank you David for all your musical contributions to contemporary music. Gone but NEVER forgotten! RIP good sir!
