I was after Ampera, but I realized there's too many drawbacks. It's EV, ...but it has very little range (50km?). Electric motor is very reliable ...but their petrol engine still needs maintenance (which adds cost). It charges very slow. It's one of the biggest ...only 4 seater cars. It has massive A pillar that reduces visability. It's quite pricey and not very popular, so repair cost can be high. I would only buy it if I was making very long trips, so I could save on fuel cost.

It depends on the price that you pay for kwh. If you have a free charging or relatively cheap charging at work it is worth it. Otherwise I wouldn't suggest. Nowadays those cars are getting older and they start to have some problems that might not be major but hard to identify by regular mechanics

Thanks Kamil, I recently purchased an Ampera Positiv on a 2015 plate here in the UK, but im guessing it was an earlier model year of manufacture as i have no Bluetooth streaming facility for my music. Annoyingly i have a driver's side indicator lens broken and ive done a temporary fix for now to prevent water ingress, but trying to find parts is really hard from research so far. In addition I am only getting about 29 miles range on battery after a full charge, which seems to run down fairly quickly unless i use my petrol generator to help extend my mileage. I drive the car sensibly to maximise efficiency so im guessing its down to some battery degredation now as its coming up to 9 years old based on the numberplate. Ive got it booked in for a service next week, but finding a Vauxhall dealership that has electric car servicing facilities has proved challenging! Great content from you on the Ampera, if i can add to your list of issues it would also be the headlamp brightness at night on dark roads. Although the bulbs look bright i may have to consider a HID conversion to help me on country roads, especially as the car has no fog lamps either to help. 😞 Meant to add that no rear parcel shelf is annoying too, in order to prevent people seeing what you are carrying in the boot space. I have seen some people online using a Renault Mégane parcel shelf which has been trimmed in some areas and a fitting kit is available to purchase as well, think it's referred to as the "Ampyshelf" online, but no idea what generation of Mégane is used for the parcel shelf 🤔

Hey, thanks for your comment. Indeed finding spare parts (especially side mirrors and carrosserie) is extremely hard. 29 miles range is not that bad and depending on the weather conditions and the climate control settings doesn't have to mean that your battery is degrading. Remember to keep your tire pressure correct as it decreases the range as well. The one more thing that you can pay attention to, are the rare brakes. The mechanism likes to get stuck and then the range gets much lower.

Hi, I'm looking to buy a 2012 Chevy Volt which is the same as the Ampera. I have a question regarding the trips and the fuel consumption. I know that the average I could probably get from the battery is about 40 km per charge in the city and I guess that is fine for my needs. However I was wondering when travelling on the highways, for example: If I get on the highway and need to keep 100-110 kph with the speed limiter, is it possible to do the following - lets say I have 100 km to drive on the highway and I get about 25 km travel range solely on the battery, then the petrol engine starts and I decide to put the hold mode so I can get the battery to about another 20 - 25 km range, then switch to EV again and drive for another 25 km on battery and repeat until the I get to my destination. Is that possible to be done, is it okay to be done and another question here is how fast does the petrol engine charges the battery pack lets say from 0 to 80%? Thank you! Your videos are very helpful, keep up the good content
@KamilOslizlo9 ай бұрын
It works in a little different way. Hold mode in general would just preserve your charge. So let's say you have 50% of your charge left, you turn on your hold mode, it will preserve SOC on 50%. In general ampera doesn't charge battery while driving, it utilizes produced energy straight away with the electric motor. If you want to charge your car while driving, you could use mountain mode which would charge up to 50% the battery and preserve it. Just bary in mind that it's not very effective and should be used only when you know you will need full power on some challenging routes.

@@KamilOslizlo Thanks for the reply. I've done some reading and I realized the Volt is absolutely different from all other cars. Especially from typical hybrids. @KamilOslizlo10 ай бұрын

@KamilOslizlo10 ай бұрын
@@dariusbaronas3302 Hey, what you're seeing with your Ampera is pretty common and it's all about the outside temp and your battery temp. Basically, the Ampera kicks on the gas engine to keep the battery in good shape if it gets too cold. It runs on gas for a bit while it warms up the battery, and then switches back to battery power. This is just how it handles the cold. But hey, if it's doing this when it's not that cold out, like 5-10°C above freezing, maybe check it out. Otherwise, it's all good and nothing to worry about.

Were the chargers in the city you visited level 1 or level 2?
@KamilOslizlo11 ай бұрын
Hi Brad, In Europe, we have slightly different electrical network standards. The standard voltage is 240V, and practically all charging points have a 16A and 240V configuration, providing a charging power of 3.6 kW. This is generally considered 2nd level charging. Additionally, the majority of these charging stations, as shown in my video, are equipped with 3-phase connectors with either 16A or 32A. Therefore, if a car is equipped with an onboard charger that supports such currents, it can be charged at a speed of up to 22 kW. Unfortunately, the Ampera is equipped with a single-phase charger that can only handle a maximum of 16A. Consequently, I could only charge it at a rate of 3.6 kW.
