Somchai cue from Thailand 58 inch 18.1oz 9.5 tip, brass Ferrule 17.5 bp. Had more expensive cues but I cue better with this than any other cue I’ve played with. Good solid hit, stiff shaft. If someone offered me a grand for it I wouldn’t sell. When u find a cue u cue well with u have to keep it. Names on the badge mean nothing!

How much is a star tournament table compared to a normal table? Would like to know the price difference.
@SimonCU2 ай бұрын
Im wondering do professional players have Star tables at home or they use normal tables like Riley and stuff? Anyone know what the professionals have at home?
@selinadean58242 ай бұрын
Some have star some have Riley tables but they all have different price ranges so some are tighter pockets then another’s but what makes pro tables so hard is when the heater is on for a few hours and the table is so fast it’s hard to control the white but like anything thousands of hours of practice going on pro tables is the way forward if you wanna come a better player
@SimonCU2 ай бұрын
@@selinadean5824 If a professional player practice on a normal Riley table at home they will have difficulty controlling and positioning the balls during a match.

Yh nice potting etc. As another comment said, basic line ups probably represent 50% of your regular break making in real frames, mainly due to not replicating the shot choice, pace, alternative angles, cannons to stay in an area, recovery shots, pack splits etc the list goes on as we all know!! If your serious to get yourself to Q School level, and actually compete NOT just take part & enter, i would expect to be able to repeat a line up 5 times etc one after the other. Pure accuracy & consistency with a great test of focus and concentration to repeat the technique shot after shot. If you miss its a reset to the start. The lads who compete at Q School who are in the running to potentially win (top 16 order of merit etc), will rarely miss in practise, and in practise matches, its see chance take chance, 3 visits tops. However, if youve ever watched the QSchool qualifers or ESPB events streamed, and i have quite a bit, the standard isnt super clinical tbh. Theres still quite a lot of missing that goes on that you wouldn't expect. But yh with basic routines & drills, to be confident in Q School or EPBS events etc, you have to be clearing them clinically really.

Hi mate, just subscribed to follow your progress etc. Interesting to have stumbled across your channel while i was flicking through some qualifiers on youtube. How has your progress been on any EPSB matches you have entered? Have you done any pro-ams, if so how have you faired? I play locally and at northern snooker centre, leeds. Its great to get on the proper match tables/star tables, pays you back for good cueing. A suggestion.....you could upload your progress in the amateur ranks, or post your matches if you can grab footage of some frames depending on the rules with EPSB or WPBSA etc. Anyway, good channel. Its interesting to hear and see someone with a full time job/family attempting to have a pop at competing.

i played on one last week and finally understood how the pros can screw back like they do ,its madness the reaction you can get on the cue ball .....on the downside the pockets even visually are crazy small and you simply cannot take liberties with any shot across into the corners or middles which you can hardly see they are just all knuckle 😂😂 the tables are like lightning dropping a high blasck in and its so weasy to run way up the table or just little screws youre out of position so easily ......ik loved it though for the reaction you can get on the ball i felt like judd trump

I’ve known quite a few super talented players attempt and fail to progress through Q School. They’ve all made thousands of centuries and one has made 26 maximums in match play. Says something that the players that tend to qualify are ex pros that fell off the tour.

Great info and something I want to work towards definitely - but is there a step down from this? This is more of a national thing, I was hoping to know the best places to look to join local individual leagues, if this is even a thing? I know you can join a local team and play in a team league, but you only get the 1 frame out of the whole night, which I don't consider to be valuable match practice. I'd rather play solo matches and get the whole 5 frames of experience under my belt each week. Is the best place to start by joining a big local club and playing events that they set up for their members? Or is there like a EPSB equivalents for certain towns/cities that give you more localised tournaments? Any advice from anyone with experience of doing such things would be appreciated!

used a john parris cue before same spec as my new one. i prefer to use my £250 cue from a local cuemaker. the john parris was a bit too flexy for me and the ash seemed to have some imperfections

Great content mate, and I look forward to seeing how you progress! My only critique is I think your shot selection is good club player instead of aspring amateur. You made a good ton there but relied on unnecessary splits when there were sequences available to take the risk away. Fine playing your mate who youre giving a start to but agaisnt top players the risks rarely seem to pay off. Keep at it though you clearly have some talent.

From my many years of personal experiences with many Snooker cues I have found that cue-shafts made using Canadian Maple have the densest, solid, and rigid shafts; not only do they not flex upon striking the cue-ball as is what happens with shafts made from Ash; but because Canadian Maple shafts are more dense, rigid, and do not flex upon striking the cue-ball, this helps to administer maximum power to the cue-ball; plus because Canadian Maple shafts are more rigid than Ash shafts certain shots that require applying spin are easier, this applies to swerve shots too. Another factor that will enable you to perform certain shots with ease is the weight of your cue, you need a cue that weighs 22ozs. Finally, another factor you need to consider is that conventional brass-joints between the butt and the shaft impacts the flow of energy from the butt to the shaft, this can be eliminated by either using a 1 piece cue; or when commissioning a bespoke cue request a 'Invisible Join' just above the 4-point splicings, outwardly there will be no indication that your cue with a invisible join is 2-piece, it will look like a 1-piece cue, this type of joint helps with smooth transition of energy from the butt of the cue to the shaft. One more thing I also recommend that your ferrule diameter is either 10mm or 11mm, ideal for playing Snooker on a full-size table. The best cue I ever played with was a 2-piece centre-joint, with Ebony butt and a Canadian Maple shaft. Though I compiled my highest break using a club cue made of Rosewood butt and a Maple shaft, which I bought for £20 30 years ago.
@Mike-10009 ай бұрын
22 ozs and 11mm tip, haha .... wow
@FART-REPELLENT9 ай бұрын
@@Mike-1000 I didn't say 11mm, I recommended 10-11mm maximum. Stone-Age Snooker professionals like John Spencer wrote a book in which he stated that the ideal weight for a cue is 15.5-16ozs 🤣; he would say that because the so-called professionals of his era including Spencer were of a very low standard, he would score a break of around 30 then play a safety shot where today's top players would pot and compile a century; or Spencer would engage in tip-tapping exchanges for which a light cue is okay; but if one wants to play the 21st century game then one needs a cue that weighs at least 20ozs.
@Mike-10009 ай бұрын
@@FART-REPELLENT 22 oz is way too much for Snooker, seriously. Do some research, google some modern players names. 👍

Are you playing in Q-Tour or any amateur tournaments? It would help you to get more match practice against good opponents and get your safety play and other aspects of the game into a better shape. It's an uphill battle though, there are so many good amateur players. Good luck with your progress.

I have ultimate one, waited like 6 years for it 🙂 I wonder if any pro plays with Elk master tip. Didn't hear anything good about it (they tend to be inconsistent or one is too different from the other one ...). I personally play with talisman soft. Maybe you could try different tips and it may help. BTW, I'm not as good player as you are, finished the whole lineup only once so far. Good luck with your journey.
