I worked at Twin Valley Mental Health Hospital (The old geriatric hospital branch of the old asylum) in the early 2000's. Right behind the hospital is another graveyard that the public is unable to access. There are hundreds of more graves there. To the right of that graveyard is a maximum-security lock down mental health facility that houses the most violent offenders. So, because of the security risks it's inaccessible. I have visited the graveyards you visited only the grass was three feet high then. Thanks for the video. And I do have a picture of the asylum that burned in 1868.

There's another tunnel (East River) a few miles further in Bluefield that's 5,400 ft. The VA / WVA line is inside the tunnel.

Thanks for sharing this, moved out of portage county to Colorado Springs in 2015. I sure miss portage county all the green. It's beautiful out here but not a lot of green grass 😢 I miss getting lost on all the back roads

I live in Bedford County, VA. been through this tunnel many times. You go in in Bland County, VA. You come out in Mercer County, W.VA.

There are 3 of these cemeteries all about a 1/4 mile from each other. All are accessible by car. One is off Harper and McKinley Ave. Rocky road by the freeway overpass on Harper. The other 2 are off Buckeye Pkwy off Broad St. Some people say they're hard to find, but they're not. And another untrue thing is people say you have to have to go on foot. All 3 you can get to by car and right to the gate of each cemetery. There are some homeless people in the area of the Harper Rd one so keep that in mind.

Grew up In West Virginia . Went through this tunnel so many times . Especially when I was stationed at Fort Hood Texas. Brings back find memories of coming home 🏡. Listening 🎶 to John denver ..

Please tell Jon Denver that the Blue Ridge Mountains and the Shenandoah River are in WESTERN VIRGINIA, not west virginia. I'm from the Shenandoah Valley in a border county, and the Blue Ridge and Shenandoah River are EAST of me. I like the song, but that line always pisses me off.

Coming from a guy in the area. When you drive through our tunnels, please always do at least the speed limit. If you slow down because you're scared or just want to admire the tunnel, you can cause backups a few miles long.

We call these drivers “tunnel chickens” because they’re afraid to driver over 35 mph in the tunnel. I’ve seen these idiots cause northbound traffic to back up for 10+ miles on I-77.

@@randyemerson2731 Guaranteed 99% of the drivers driving slow in the tunnel are from the Pittsburgh, Pa. area. There are tunnels on the Parkway and they are always backed up during rush hours because of these people...

There is 2 mountain tunnels on 77 north an not even 1 of them is in Wytheville. So now that we know where u are from(Wyth Co no doubt) those mountains are in BLAND Co. Which is like a completely different World as soon as u come out of them. In the mountains where every1 waves at ya while everywhere else people have their noses in the air lol 😂.

Use to be a beautiful and fun place to shop. Everyone knows that whole road as "the green mile". You know your not from the area when you say "Mon Roe" it is known to locals as "Mun Roe".

It's is a state through, a Commonwealth State. Daniel Boone walked through the area, and the Shawnee Capital was in Chillicothe where they capture Daniel and held him, til he Xscape.
