I liked your rants about these channels. Most of them I've seen, and I agree with you... just a little too flashy for "roughin it". Oh, those Van Wives channel. I watched a few of their videos and the production quality is just a little to good for people living off-grid. I also saw clips of them living off grid in Mexico. So from Canada to Mexico. ... I guess life is little better than it looks!!!! .. oh and for those couples in spandex pants and flashing their ass.... I'm going to live off grid this year, you already do. You know what kind of mental drain it is living alone. I see it in some chic who lives in her van on her property. I respect there is a tole for isolation. But those couples selling sex appeal. ... I don't think their cabins are really where they live. Rant all you want!! ... Off grid should be authentic... and not staged.

I know im a bit late to the party. Ive got a question. Does the propane fridge require electricity to run a light or fan . Isaw a 110 volt plug. Not sure if the propane fridge needs it for something Im asking because im planning on building a 7x12 camper and cant find a lot of information on propane refridgerators. Any info you care to share would be greatly appreciated
@GrumpyMountainMan26 күн бұрын
No fans, the 110v is for a heater to use m if you don't want propane. It is a hog on your power bill if you use 11Ov. The lights use batteries.

Solar is great for the summer, but it’s a different story in the winter. I got great output on my solar when summer was here. I had plenty of electricity to spare, but the moment the days got shorter and the weather more overcast I saw my production go down a lot. I like the combo propane/electric refrigerators because you can use propane in the winter. There’s also some residual heat during the colder months. I also like gas light in the winter. The gas mantles provide a nice light, and the residual heat helps keep the place warmer. During the summer I can use LED lights on the solar system when I get a lot of power.

I would very much like to go fully off grid, I have the gas / propane cook top, and propane oven and propane heat, and a wood stove in my den, I have two battery banks AGM a 500 amp Vmax on one and a 300 amp Vmax on the other, But my last problem is my refrigerator, This video is very helpful. I was looking for a old ice box type but have not been able to find one in my area. A propane one would probably be my best option.

Thanks, I'll be treating my timber this way soon. Is the diesel just to thin the oil a bit? Or does it have a purpose? Would it just evaporate? I'm not sure with diesel, but petrol evaporates pretty quickly.

Hi @GrumpyMountainMan, thanks for your video. How do you remove those little Hemlock saplings from the forest ground....do you just gingerly yank it out? Or do you use a tool to wrestle the soil out? I think a video on transplanting saplings of all kinds would be super useful. There are a few videos but not any that really give you a lot of good tips and also they don't cover all types of trees and how they differ in transplanting from the woods. For instance you're not including the soil which makes things a lot easier, I would bet a certain size of tree maybe you'd need to include the soil. That type of stuff. I love Hemlocks and thanks for your video.

Nice video. We have the exact same fridge in our cabin in Maine. We have it connected with a stiff 3/8” copper pipe, which makes it impossible to move for cleaning, service, etc., without disconnecting. What type of hose did you use and is flexible hose considered safe? Thanks.

I used BBQ grill hose. It is wrapped with a braided stainless steel so it is mouse proof. I got it on Amazon.

I want to thank you for posting this! First off, I'm a transwoman and I only say that for my safety. My husband and I do not believe in flaunting it or pushing ourselves down other peoples' throats. We're both in our 50's. He's into watching anime, and cooking. I'm into video games and handling the finances. We both work our butts off and are VERY reserved people. What we can't stand are liars, fakes and flakes. Thank you for telling the truth.
