Putting 20" rims/tires on the chopper will get it up out of the mud. We used to do that in a wet year.

@@riveredgefarm860 thanks. What brand is the wrench and what do you call the end that pivots. I think I am going to need the same. I was able to get to the two on the outside. But the one closest to the steering wheel is not reachable with my socket wrench.

Probably a good idea to oil the fan hub, if not been replaced with a sealed bearing type. Also the distributor drive and distributor have plugs to remove and grease occasionally, I think somewhere around 300 hour intervals. That filter drain gets overlooked more than actual drain and clean, the oil is pumped into the filter housing, through the paper element, through the hole in the cover bolt and drops back into the oil pan. Some of the sludge and dirt particles drop in this housing instead of being trapped in the filter. If you wash the filter housing, it is a good idea to put a temporary bolt without the drain hole, so the wash out don't drain into the oil pan. Defiantly enjoyed the video, thanks for letting us watch.

Kind of dry for wrapping even for haylage and if you're wrapping it just for weatherproofing if it sweats it will mould . Also when you switch to 500mm film from 750mm you need to slow the bale rotation so that you are getting a 50%film overlap .
@riveredgefarm860
@riveredgefarm860 2 ай бұрын
Ya it's our first time using a wrapper we still need to get it set up correctly we have fed out a few of the bales already and they are perfectly dry so far with no issues fingers crossed it stays that way. But thank you for the insight we will keep that in mind

That bolt that you replaced in the tie rod steering arm originally in the vertical shaft had a tapered pointed hole drilled about 3/8 deep not all the way through and the bolt that goes into the tie rod was threaded with a point on it. When tightening the bolt, it wedges the tie rod to the vertical shaft and centered it in the correct position. Those breaking like that was common when owners would let the bolt become loosened and the point on the bolt would sheer off. I love the cub! I have several :) lot of fun

In past experiences i have learned that it helps a lot to hit the pile with a little speed, and also to lift and curl the bucket at the same time. I noticed it did not want to move when you first tried moving it from where it was sitting did y’all by chance check the trans oil?
@riveredgefarm860
@riveredgefarm860 9 ай бұрын
Thank you for the comment ya I tried getting a running start but there is a building right behind that pile that the hoe would of hit. And the Trans oil is at the right level just real wet down there wasn't the best area to test it out lol

I have to tell this long winded story. I was about 4 in ‘59. My Dad had a Co-op E-3 on the Case chopper. Middle of the field was wet. When he couldn’t pull it he would stop and hook the Farmall H in front with chain and take the slack out. I would get on the H and hanging onto the steering wheel push the clutch in. He would reach up and put it in gear and told me to release the clutch when he waved his hand. He’d get on the Co-op, wave his hand and off we’d go. I didn’t have to worry about steering as the tractor front wheels followed the rear tire rut from the previous pass. I distinctly remember asking him how I would know when to stop, he said if I stopped moving to push the clutch in. When we would get thru the worst he would push in the clutch on the Co-op and the H, unable to pull it all would start to spin and I would push the clutch in and hold it. He would come up, put it in neutral, get me off, get the H out of the way and continue to the end of field with the Co-op. And so it would go row after row. I’ve always remembered this like it was yesterday. And by the way, I have the Co-op and the H. I remember years later pulling with 3. Farmall 460, the H and the Co-op. That time he fastened a piece of sheet metal under the chopper so it would slide better without as much mud pushing up into moving parts.

We had multiple falls like that when I was dairy farming. A couple things we did to help keep the chopper straight and up out of the mud was 20 inch truck tires on the chopper and extend the left axle out far enough to get the chopper wheel running in the tractor's rut. Had to add on a couple feet of tube to get it out far enough but it really helps.

mid 60's we had similar conditions...single row Gehl chopper pulled by two 3010's in tandem....alongside, pulling a wagon were a IH 300 and Super H....doubt if we ever got the wagon half full, given the chopper wanting to go sideways. My cousin and I, both in our teens thought we could do more by hand chopping it and carrying it to a single stationary location.. a JD B would have been the rescue tractor. We did give up.
