I have a tattoo on my right shoulder - a waving red banner with “Do you hear the people sing?” written across it. Les Miserables was the first musical I ever experienced (5 years old- for some reason mum was upset!) and this song in particular has been one a lifesaver for me many times ❤

Thank god for youtube. Just done exactly the same as so many comments below. Heard in the 'Les Miserables: Do you hear the people sing: Sung by 17 Jean Valjeans from around the world' and your short but brilliantly strong and powerful voice especially over the what seems the band got even louder so you really had to sing loudly yet so clear drew to thinking the power of youtube will fine this chap. I believe it was Jeff Leyton that we saw in Les Mis in Bristol. I have never forgotten how moved I was when I heard him sing this. The absolute best version ever.....

I had the pleasure of meeting Jeff at astley Bridge conservative club in bolton and then again in middleton just before he started his role in les mis 1992 . Went on to see the show in Manchester three times . Definitely the best jean valjean . A far more subtle voice than Alfie Boe
