7mm bullets have better bc than 6.5mm. Huh. Interesting.

yep, 7mm - 195 elite has a G7 of .387 the 6.5mm - 156 has a G7 of .347. That's the two heaviest in class. Lower than that the 7mm - 180 has a G7 of .345 and the 6.5mm - 140 has a G7 of .307. Both are better to prove our point. Sure it changes in the lighter bullets, but we are talking long range here

I use a solid gun vice to level the bore, then use a flashlight and plumb bob on the wall. Similar method but cheaper.

Making a country full of sniper rifles and snipers, one person at a time. I love it! USA. Come to think of it, if there's a world full of such people and rifles, there can be no tyranny.

So doing the calibration just essentially bumps up or down your muzzle velocity, correct? So can you just arbitrarily do that yourself? Also, if calibrating is just moving the muzzle velocity up and down, will it not effect those closer distances that you were having accurate hits on? Or is it not enough to make a difference at 5-600yds. I think that’s basically what I saw you do in the next video if I understood correctly. Thanks!

There are some variables to your question. Two things you need to make sure are correct in your ballistic program. 1 is your scope height and 2 is your elevation correction factor. If these are not in there and correct it is going to correct by adjusting your velocity and you’ll end up with a less than perfect solution. However it will work and be accurate to 1,000 yards. If those are correct and your running the G7 BC instead of the custom curve there again it’s going to adjust the muzzle velocity. Once again only good out to 1,000 yards. If you’re running the custom curve bc then it will tailor the bc and velocity to meet the over performance of your projectile based on the deformation of your projectile caused by your barrel. Thus creating a custom solution for your rifle specifically instead of a “swag” solution. When all the information is input correctly I have tested this out to 2,000 yards with no need to calibrate anything. Now the second part of your question. The reason you want to “true” your ballistics as far as you can is that the distance between the angles increases over distance. So the closer you come back to you the smaller and smaller that difference is. So if your solution was perfect at 600 when you started out and you had to adjust at 1,000 a little bit, when you come to 600 you wouldn’t be able to shoot the difference that adjustment made. In the end on all of it, it comes down to the quality of the information you put in. Put gold in, get gold out. -Keith Hall
