Sorry you feel that way, this is a different style of karate (Shorinjiryu renshinkan) and its a traditional Japanese style. Within this style a horse stance (the one shown in the kata with many of the blocks) is performed with a bent trailing leg facing outwards in the direction of the knee, hip and foot, as opposed to a front stance or hanmi where the leg behind is straight. While within the style you practice the form for certain stances may be different, within this form of karate those stances are correct and very well done. @@liddyyamaha36 its like practicing scales instead of playing a song, its just an exercise to practice form, its not for fighting, though it could reveal bad form that might reveal weaknesses in a fighter.

I would say it is very cringe worthy but I practice in front of the mirror so I can learn a technique that doesn't look stupid. Fighting the Air doesn't help either so its best to perform Kata when Opponent is attacking with a Bo-Staff.

It's called Soryu Tessaku in this style. The person performing it is Koichi Yoshimoto, 6th dan kyoshi from Miyazaki, he also commentates during the tournaments finals.
