Saw these guys about 3-4 times from the 1998-2001 timeframe and they are still one of the best rock bands I've seen live. Scott Weiland was a mad-man genius!

BK for JEMS says, "We're down to just handful of DIME friendly recordings still to be released in the Lost and Found series. Surely this tape of Led Zeppelin's final night at The Forum in 1975 is one collectors have been waiting for given its epic length, famous JJ Jackson and Linda Lovelace introduction and special, sublime inclusion of "Since I've Been Loving You." March 27, 1975 is one of the most famous Millard captures, presented here from a DAT transfer of Mike's master cassettes made by Rob S in the early 2000s. While it is an excellent recording there are portions didn't transfer optimally either because of azimuth alignment issues or damage to the underlying masters. In a recent conversation with one of Millard's allies circa 1988-94 we learned that Mike's LZ master tapes did show signs of wear and tear from excessive playback, and some required re-shelling and splicing. One of these factors contributed to the fidelity issues present on this transfer. That being said portions unaffected by these issues sound excellent. A rip of Rob's DAT made from Millard's master cassettes was provided as .flac files to esteemed LZ mastering engineer dadgad to again assist on this release. He prepared both a flat transfer edition (fixing only levels, pitch and phase issues, with no EQ or other mastering applied) and a second, "respectfully mastered" edition as he puts it, that fine tunes the sound for what we feel is optimum listening pleasure. As Jim notes below, this night was recorded from the very front row. Here's what Jim R recalled about Led Zeppelin's final night at The Forum in 1975: I went with Mike Millard to the Led Zeppelin concert on March 27, 1975. It was the third show of three at The Forum that also ended the US tour. Closing nights always had extra buzz. We knew the band would give it their all and play till they had nothing left, and boy was that true. Led Zeppelin played for close to three hours and 45 minutes. This was the seventh time we saw them on the 1975 tour, an embarrassment of riches. Seven for seven, all possible SoCal shows: Two in San Diego, a pair in Long Beach and three at The Forum, the band's home away from home. Keep in mind this was still the early days of Mike's "Nakamichi 550 + AKG 451e" era. At this point his work was only known to a handful of friends in SoCal. After the Forum Zep shows, Mike's reputation was about to take off! We got Mike's equipment into the building using his dad's wheelchair, the original, legendary method. It was also still the good ol' days when they allowed cameras in. With Mike seated and me pushing, we were escorted by security down to floor level in the service elevator--full VIP treatment. Little did they know what was inside Mike's seat cushion. LOL. Once on the floor level we had to make a pit stop at the men's room to unpack the Nak from the seat cushion and put it in his bag. Keep in mind this all takes a lot of time and explains why some taping started a little late. Not this one though. Mike and I sat Floor Section C, Row 1, Seats 7-8. The right floor section at the Forum was 10 chairs across, with seat 10 being on the inside aisle. Yes MIKE TAPED FROM THE FRONT ROW. That takes a lot of balls, especially given there were but two measly seats between us and the security guards sitting in the aisle. Most of the time they were looking down the aisle away from the stage as fans were always trying to move up closer. As such, Mike was very cautious in keeping an eye on his mic levels. Another danger in taping from the front row was the real chance of getting caught by Peter Grant and one of his many cronies. Peter was very protective of the band and would take no mercy on anyone recording one of their shows. He had a notorious reputation for physical retribution. Yikes!!! March 27 being closing night also meant it was the third time Mike and I were seeing Zep play after meeting Plant, Jones and Bonham a few days before in the lobby of their preferred LA headquarters, the Continental Hyatt House on Sunset Boulevard. We heard they were staying there during the entire West Coast run. All three band members were friendly and autographed some photo prints I had on hand from the prior Long Beach shows. Page was holed up in his room. March 27 was an excellent performance. All four members were in top shape. Great jamming throughout the night, with many extended solos by Page. After the concert, we continued our new tradition of drinking ice cold beers (which had been chilling for four+ hours) in the parking lot while listening to the recording we just made on headphones. Those walking by Mike's car were offered a listen. I am pretty sure most of the pictures included in the artwork are from this March 27 show, but don't hold me to it. In some of the pictures you can see our angle of view to the stage from the front row on the right side. As usual, I hope you enjoy the sights and sounds of this great show. Cheers to my buddy Mike and the late great John Henry Bonham. May they both RIP."

Luke says, "Idles brought their "Tangk" tour to Brooklyn Bowl LV, marking the first time the band had played Vegas during its 15 years of touring. Weeknight shows in Vegas can be a dicey proposition for some bands but it was refreshing to see not simply a crowded house but also one that was deeply engaged, rambunctious and respectful. I was relieved to see that I had positioned myself far enough away from the chaos ensuing on the floor to get pull a nice recording of the show. Highlights for me were an elongated "Perm" and a karaoke medley tacked onto "Love Song." As an added bonus Kelly Deal manipulated guitar sounds on the night closing "Rottweiler." Idles seemed to enjoy themselves, the guitarists darting into, around and over the crowd and Joe, the singer, being impressed by the reception the band was getting in a city they had never played. Thankfully, Idles said that they would return to Vegas and when they make good on that promise be sure to catch them. What a delightfully strange brew of cacophonous, guitar noise, dance beats and scream/howling. I enjoyed them and look forward to seeing them again."

I was very lucky to have ran a spotlight from the gid over the stage on the Tampa show. I remember the climb to the grid was about thirty feet and after all of us spotlight operators were in place they raised it up another 30'. I was assigned to Rick Wakeman and the stage was in the round and rotated very slowly the entire show making me kind of dizzy. Was probably among the top 5 shows I've ever seen/worked.

BK for JEMS says, "This week we feature the last recording Mike "The Mike" Millard made of one of his favorite bands. This was Mike's second time seeing Yes on the Union tour, which combined line-ups to feature both guitarists Steve Howe and Trevor Rabin, both keyboard players in Rick Wakeman and Tony Kaye, as well as dual drummers Bill Bruford and Alan White. The May 15, 1991 show at The Forum was released on Vol. 189 of the Lost and Found series. Many of the reviews of the Costa Mesa show three months later flag technical problems that included frequent feedback and keyboard failures. But one such issue yielded a happy result. Steve Howe was supposed to perform his standard acoustic number, "Clap," as he did across this tour. But because of an issue with his guitar, when he switched to another instrument he elected to play "Leaves Of Green" from Tales From Topographic Oceans instead, one of only two appearances the song made in 1991. The previously circulating recording of this gig is burdened by a lot of crowd chatter and noise. Millard's recording should represent a major upgrade and serve as the definitive document of the show. The Union tour looks good on paper, merging competing line-ups in the Yes universe. What doesn't always blend as well is the modern-sounding synthesizers in classic tracks, as well as some of the songs from the Union album like "Saving My Heart" which pale in comparison to the band's best work. But you can't have a merger without compromise."

BK for JEMS says, "Volume eight in the Goldstein series was recorded just two days after our last release, David Bowie at The Forum on February 11, 1976. On Feb 13 of the same year, Barry was in Irvine capturing The Kinks on tour in support of their clever concept album Schoolboys In Disgrace. For whatever reason, this seems to be one of the band's least-documented tours, with only a handful of tapes in circulation, which is a shame given how entertaining these performances were. We believe Barry's recording is previously uncirculated but that's likely because he only preserved 26 minutes of the show as the setlist above makes clear. He not only begins recording well into the concert, but after these 26 minutes, Barry (intentionally or otherwise) reused the Kinks tape to record the final 30 or so minutes of Led Zeppelin at the Forum, June 22, 1977, released as Vol. Two in the series. In other words, the rest of the Kinks show was sacrificed to get the rest of Led Zeppelin 16 months later. Now, if you're a Kinks fan, that might feel like a bad choice, but Zepheads were thrilled by Barry's 6/22/77 recording, the first quality capture of that particular show, one of two 1977 SoCal Zeppelin shows NOT recorded by Goldstein's pal Mike Millard. If you've downloaded other tapes in the Goldstein series, his Kinks master is another unusually clear recording for the time. And while it is disappointing not to have the full Kinks set, 26 minutes is better than nothing. Once again, JEMS thanks Barry for trusting us with his incredible audio, video and photographic archive, and for deciding now was the time to share that material widely with fans. Please let him know how much you appreciate it in the comments. Helping make this one happen as they do week in and week out are Professor Goody, who checked the pitch, and mjk5510 who took care of post production and designed our cover art. We look forward to sharing more of Barry's master recordings in 2024."

Was there with my brother. He had an extra ticket and didn't want to go alone. I knew a few of their songs from the radio so I said sure. Small theater venue, small stage, not much going on up there, MJK had his back to us most of the time with his super long hair which was his thing. Couldn't see his face. Was before the internet was a big thing and people had cell phones and people didn't know what he looked like. Maynard and James Iha were telling Michael Jackson jokes. Was one of the best concerts I have ever been to. I was a fan after that show.

BK for JEMS says, ""We return to what was surely among the most thrilling run of shows Mike "The Mike" Millard ever documented with Peter Gabriel at the Roxy supporting his first solo album. As Millard's taping partner Jim R notes below, the two of them saw all four of Gabriels sets at The Roxy over two nights, after having had a busy taping week already. The early show from this night can be found on Vol. 187 of the Lost and Found series, while the late show from April 10 appears on Vol. 118. While Gabriel performs the same songs in the April 9 late show as the early set, the energy is different and the audience less shouty and more tuned in, resulting in what some might call a slightly more focused performance. He plays all nine songs from his solo debut plus "On The Air" and "A Song Without Words" which would evolve into tracks on his second album the following year, tasty covers of Marvin Gaye's "Ain't That Peculiar" and The Kinks' "All Day And All Of The Night," and a crowd-pleasing set-closer of the Genesis classic "Back in N.Y.C." But that wasn't enough. The band returns to play "Modern Love" again which catches Millard by surprise. He gets his gear restarted a little late and his levels are too high resulting in a distortion at the start and some dropouts which ultimately clear up for most of the song, which is also in mono due to right-channel noise across the entire song. Mike and Jim sat right next to the stage for the second show and perhaps the moving of the gear explains the dropouts found on the master tape during "On The Air." The single-channel ones have been corrected here but a few patches of full drops remain. But after those early glitches it is largely smooth sailing for Mike as he makes another excellent recording. For reasons that appear to be lost to history, though Mike and Jim went to all four Gabriel sets this year, Mike's own list omits the early show on April 10, suggesting they only recorded 3 out of 4 sets they saw. Here's what Jim R recalled about Gabriel at the Roxy 1977: I went with Mike Millard to the Peter Gabriel concerts at the Roxy on April 9, 1977, in this case, the late show. We went to the early show as well. Going to both shows made for a long but a rewarding night. Keep in mind, we would get to the Roxy a few hours before the first show to secure our place in line, otherwise we would end up in the back, and we don't sit in the back. After the early set ended, if you held tickets to the late set the staff would let you stay inside and have the first choice of tables before the patrons waiting outside were let in. We always got a table up against the stage for Roxy late shows. Mike and I also went to both of Gabriel's sets the night after on April 10. The Roxy shows were part of his first tour as a solo artist, backed by a band that included legendary guitarist Robert Fripp (stage name Dusty Rhodes), who was hidden away at the back of the stage, Larry Fast on keyboards, Tony Levin on bass, Steve Hunter on guitar, Allan Schwartzberg on drums, Phil Asberg on keyboards and Jim Maelen on percussion. Given how long it had been since Fripp toured in any form, I'm sure the King Crimson fans were quite pleased to see him on stage again. Especially when watched up close, Gabriel is a captivating performer. He was all over the stage, singing from the balcony and in the audience. All four of his Roxy '77 sets were outstanding. I hope you enjoy this one as much as Mike and I did. Gabriel's Roxy stand was part of a busy week for Mike and I as we went to seven shows over five consecutive nights. Jethro Tull on April 6 and 7. Return to Forever on April 8. Then the four Gabriel sets on April 9 and 10. Oh to be young again and be able to do all this. Cheers to my buddy Mike. RIP."
