The Reckoning brought me here. At 1:56 that's Hastings Old Town and what was once The Italian Way Restaurant before it became Rocksalt under new management in 2021 and now called Calvers. Only ate there a few weeks ago. Still, I just cannot watch this all the way through, as I came here to see what the original version of the ending was like, as on The Reckoning, it's Steve Coogan as Saville switching the lights off. Terrible idea in hindsight for him to do this and the way he went up to Janice Long at the start, I just felt really angry and queasy. He was a vile, nasty nonceychops.

It is weird how Steve Coogan seemed so much more charismatic than the real thing. When watching The Reckoning I still thought that I understood how he could play all people around him - seeming like a harmless eccentric weirdo. But in the original he really just comes across as absurdly creepy, even when silently turning off the lights.

It shows how much reality tv has changed society - who would have believed 30 years ago that sex offenders identity line ups would held in front of a studio audience & shown on TV? - I blame Judge Judy.

Servalan is a highly intelligent person. When she boarded the Liberator in this episode, she takes one glance at the state of the interior and quickly, logically concludes how the standard of housekeeping suffers when left in the hands of a man like Avon!

@@meridian2000I think the viewing figures tend to disagree with you. Although they went up to start with, the viewing figures went down to 6.5m the following year. In 1996 they moved it to Fridays opposite Corrie, and TOTP slowly died a painful death.
