Glad to be the first commenter. Anyway, I used to play football at ERHS, and I like in New York now, so I miss home a lot. So when I came across this video, it was surprised at how happy it made me to hear the familiar and emotionally significant sounds of home as the band played the fight song. And then when the camera panned over to the field and cheer squad, the visual memories ignited even more positive feelings (because, let's face, nobody is really watching the band after a touchdown is scored, right?). So, then I realized/remembered what the song signified (because I hadn't emotionally put 2 and 2 together, because it's difficult to emotionally put yourself in the time immediately following when a touchdown is scored, when you haven't actually watched the touchdown being scored.). And when I realized that people were cheering for a scored touchdown, it made me even happier to be watching the video. It was like I was emotionally transported to the stands during game; awesome experience. Sorry that this is all about me and my experience. But, you know, I watched this video, and I didn't even care whether the band played the song well - no, that was never the point. Because even if the song was played the worst I had ever heard it, I was so transfixed on how swept away I was by the whole experience, that I wouldn't even have noticed that the band was struggling. But I did notice one thing about the band, and I suppose this is something that everyone can appreciate: when did ERHS start having violinists in the band at football games? Has that always been the case, because I sure as heck don't remember people busting out string instruments during the games! At any rate, I suppose it reflects how much more variety the ERHS experience has to offer these days. Like, I hear we have VERY dominant girl's water polo team--like a city powerhouse. I mean, water polo wasn't even a thing when we were there! Anywho, I'm really happy for the school, and I'm really happy that the students - our children - are offered such a plentiful experience (it seems). I'm just happy in general. I hope lots of people read this, and I hope they share their experience/thoughts/feelings too.
