The point is to grind against an heavy load without muscle fatigue. That's a very different kind of muscle contraction compared to MetCons

I dont understand why CF normally prescribes only 1 lift and infrequently. Why not do 2 or 3 exercises per session, repeat them 1-2 times per week for few weeks, and then switch to different exercises?

My only take on this open was the 23.3; it was a weird workout from the movement, weights, and time cap. If we think about it from quarterfinals athletes and above, it's one thing; it was a totally different thing for the rest of the athletes. If we can describe 23.1, " which in my opinion is the best CrossFit workout," and 23.2, a longish pace test. Both have the stimulus of going with the flow depending on your level, While 23.3 was somehow indescribable. It's meant to be a quarterfinal " Challenge " more than an Open workout. Generally speaking, I think the Open was a good Open, no more no less.

@bigshoulderscrossfit Жыл бұрын
23.3 was a very skill based, and technically challenging workout. This made the test less about how much you could push and suffer, and more about did you have that skill/movement or not. This can feel very defeating for many. So I totally understand your feeling of it being a weird workout and perhaps better suited for quarterfinals than the open.

Lets look at it from a wholistic competition stand point. 23.1 had spacing requirements most boxes could not accommodate, I bet over 70% of the scores submitted did not meet the standards of the workout. 23.2 was programmed in a way you could get a higher score by walking and you are saying that's good programming? Also, can you tell me what a thruster is- asking for crossfit HQ
@bigshoulderscrossfit
@bigshoulderscrossfit Жыл бұрын
The spacing requirements hardly impacted where people finished on the leaderboard so I don’t think that invalidates that test. Whether you ran, shuffled, or walked, you needed to never stop moving, push your pace, and have tons of fitness to do well on 23.2. A thruster is a front squat followed by a press. Hip crease should descend below the knee and the arms should reach a full locked out position overhead at the top. During the press the knees may not bend and it must be a singular fluid motion. I get that people have their gripes and that aspects of the open weren’t perfect, but none of those points you’ve brought up invalidate the test or that the workouts fit CrossFit’s models of fitness and programming.

@@Therealkevin87 it very well could have made the difference for some athletes, and that’s unfortunate. I don’t think it was as profound as you’re making it out to be though, and either way, the fittest are moving on and the rest of us were given a good test of what our strengths and weaknesses are and what we need to work on going forward.

Hiller mentions that Justin being 78th does not sit right with him. I don't understand how that is an indication that the open was't a good test. It rather shows that Justin is not in the best shape at the moment. If you want to be called the fittest on earth, you have to be good overall. That's what CF has always been about. I feel this open tested. If there wasn't T2B and dubs I would have done a few thousand places better. I don't go around believing it was a bad open now. I just know what to work on now.

Yep! I know I can’t let HSPU’s limit me anymore. If anything you could argue that it’s a BETTER test of fitness because there was nowhere to hide. You had to be good at everything or it would expose your weakness.

I’ll be making notes here. 1. When scores separately as they were, I’m not sure it is also then fair to say that 23.2a/b can be combined with the statement every test featured every component of fotness

In the next statement you separate that same thought to prove a different point in saying they have included a mono structural test.

I don't think you are far off on this. I was thinking something like this instead of the finish this piece in this amount of time to move to next piece. That was a Castro deal. Your idea fits better. However I don't see HSPU i see Wallwalks. No KB Swings cause they are easy for everyone.

I think the KBS and DB box step overs are more about adding an extra wrinkle, and less about being the main challenge of the workout. Those weights will be heavy to some, but you’re right, most people will fly through them.

I think its going to be a burner with one challenging movement, 2 easy to do with heart rate spike, shuttle run, burpee box jump ..etc 1 challenging movement like Strict HSPU or a heavy cluster or snatch
@bigshoulderscrossfit

I think you’re right on the burner part! The more I’ve thought about, and after Castro’s hint, I think shuttle runs could be happening! Depending how they count the reps they actually would fit with the lower rep scheme I’m anticipating!

Not sure where you’re getting your data from, but I could see how someone who doesn’t have the strength for a HSPU could hurt themselves by trying it. We’ll see! Maybe they stick with wall walks and save the HSPU’s for quarterfinals!

@@bigshoulderscrossfit There’s no way of having real data on it but just educated guess from osteopaths and people needing days off after from neck pain. It was the ones who has hspu’s but around the 2-9 unbroken level that hurt themselves the most. Which is a lot of people.

I’ve been thinking the same thing, but they did put out a video saying the HEAVY kb and DB wouldn’t be needed until QFinals, leaving the lighter weights for the open. So that’s where I came up with Rx doing Oh, and scaled doing a goblet squat or maybe a single arm front rack sq.
