What exactly is the difference between butterflies and dragonflies as I assume both both represent change/transformation?
@CaveTalksКүн бұрын
To be honest , not that much, symbolisms are as vague as they can be. I interpret the difference as dragonflies represent more of a change in maturity, while butterflies represent more of a transformation into a new self.

what the hell did I just watch? what did you even discuss about fate and will? like can you at least get the facts right Jayce and Viktor were not the only two touched by the Arcane, there was also Mel, Ekko and arguably Heimer. The significance of the cave is not Jayce reimagining past deeds and coming out with a new purpose, it's walking the path Viktor did, sick and with a broken leg in the lowest levels of Piltover. His purpose was still to save Viktor and by extension all of humanity, experiencing Viktor's journey gave him more reason to admire/save his partner. "face the unknown together" yeah you're just making up dots to connect Why is Ekko in the free will section when it was future mage Viktor's plan all along to get Jayce to pass the acceleration rune to Ekko so that he can come back and save the world? And finally, Viktor was not corrupted by the Arcane, seriously give me your best arguments of why you think so and I'll tell you why you're wrong. For some reason we have to find some outside force to explain why the good guy turn bad when in reality everyone will do bad when pushed far enough. Take Jinx from S1, if you blame her actions and motivations on Silco/Vi you erase her agency and complexity, you ignore the nuances of the character writing. I will not be interpreting anything as "outside influence" unless it's as clear as Mel using Jayce. And on the topic of Jayce, we see him go schizo and even Viktor comments that another will is within him but lets conveniently not count that as being manipulated by the Arcane. There is definitely a discussion about fate and free will to be had but this ain't it. don't cook again
@CaveTalks2 күн бұрын
Thanks for your comment. I do have to state that this video is my narrative where I never consider my opinion as right facts. I think if every word is taken literally, a lot can be lost in the translations. For the significance of cave you can visit my video on Ep.7 that touched on this very topic, where your points stand, just that I didn't want to repeat them in this video. It is quite an apparent connection of how Jayce experience what Viktor was given, which represents issues the undercity is facing as a whole. Ekko is in the section of free will exactly because fate and will is always just a matter of perspectives. I never considered future Viktor as that omnipotent as he is also betting on a process of trial and error, which he carries out because of his own will. Viktor is absolutely corrupted by the Arcane, corrupted just means influenced, I don't even see his actions as bad. This doesn't take away that Viktor bears responsibility for his actions, and I clearly stated as the beginning that there are no heroes or villains in the story. You are just forcing this false narrative on my video. Again, on the topic of Jayce, you can check my other video on "What is arcane?" for my theory of that will within Jayce. Finally, I am still cooking another video, so see you on the next one.

I believe that arcane could be a potential hamartia of HexTech, as it involves accessing forbidden knowledge without the proper understanding of how to control it. Heimerdinger was both right and wrong at the same time. Time is an excellent teacher, but it ultimately kills all its pupils; after all, humans have short lives. Life may be long, but individual lives are short. I really like your analysis of this show. Fortiche and Riot have undeniably crafted a masterpiece with Arcane. It's been a long time since an animated story has moved me so deeply, reminiscent of how I felt after watching Grave of the Fireflies. Thank you for expressing what the show evokes in such clear and coherent terms. Well done!

To add, the hammer crushing Jayce's leg also puts him in the prior steps of Viktor. Crippled and weakened, struggling to rise up out of the Undercity. And once he did, he was determined to not stop until he could secure his (and everyone's) survival, similar to what was driving Viktor's research into the hexcore. Amazing symbolism.

It's incredibly refreshing to hear someone actually *get* this part of the narrative. Kinda checks out as it seems this person also has at least some philosophical knowledge, and it's pretty fundamental problems of human existence being tackled lol. Not only refreshing but even validating to in the same video also hear someone point out the parallels between the Jayce/Viktor storyline and Vander/Silco, who were also enmeshed in the same types of grand questions Personally though, I cast it more under the umbrella of conflict and its inevitability in a pluralistic world, rather than the more general concept of choice, even though it's a prerequisite. That, and in the show's own parlance, the false dichotomy of emotion and reason as tools for effectuating desirable change - the former without the latter is largely ineffectual, and the latter without the former renders whatever is achieved meaningless (or even more fundamentally, doesn't even get you started because you don't have any axioms to build theories from about what is valuable to strive for to begin with). I also like to think that some of this is represented in various ways throughout - for example, the irony in Viktor not understanding the full extent of his coin analogy ie that without the capacity to do wrong there is no meaningful way of doing right either/with no meaningful individuality or emotion it becomes impossible to do anything good for someone else, the line about affection keeping Viktor and Jayce together, Jayce realizing that he wasn't for the councilroom and instead belonged with Viktor, etc. Even the whole Ekko sequence functions as a reminder of why you shouldn't just curl into a ball and give up, because there is such beauty to be had if we could only minimize conflict and find ways to coexist, and it's fitting that it's through his direct intervention that Jayce and Viktor can have the last leg of their final conversation, the one where the catalyzing affection is reified. There were also a few lines of dialogue that I initially didn't think fit, but upon closer inspection, actually fit perfectly: the type of thing I'm talking about is when Viktor's mask is broken, and the tone and implication of his response to Jayce's persistence have slight edge that wouldn't make sense if Viktor had completely given up/been separated from his humanity, instead letting us know that deep down, there indeed was still a part of "him" in there. A part that saw the value of emotions as driving both meaningful action but also beauty. The part that valued Jayce, and which had been shut off thanks to the perceived betrayal in Jayce not destroying the hexcore, along with everything else that was clashed on in season 1. Lmao I wrote all this before even getting to or seeing the "affection" section of the video, so I guess that's just more validation to this way of thinking about it. Just another detail in case anyone missed it - the final shot of Viktor and Jayce in the realm of ideas (to follow through on the theme here lol) has Viktor no longer look like the vague light being he had been previously, instead having his shorter hair from the start of season 1, and his initial positioning even makes it look like he's wearing the same clothes. It wasn't Singed's sphere that was the real cocoon, it was his masked body, and his final form is simply what he started out as, with Jayce. Man their story is beautiful. A detail that struck me watching this video is that - given that one way of characterizing Jayce's naivety is to view them as born out of his privilege, of not having to really suffer and truly understand the plight of people worse off than him, or to accept his own fallibility - it wasn't until he really had to struggle in the post-apocalypse, especially in ways that have an obvious resemblance to Viktor's struggles (crawling out of a fissure in the ground, having a less-than-functional leg etc), that he rid himself of his general inability to understand other perspectives than his own, or at the very least the first one that comes to him. Anyway, subscribed for more higher analyses

Thanks for the comment! It is true that I am not actually well versed in philosophical knowledge, but I believe independent thinking on our own existence is crucial, and I try to formulate arguments/ideas in my own language to initiate such conversations. There is a lot of nuances and details you mentioned I didn't catch that is eye-opening, which is essentially why we enjoy Arcane so much. I do would like to add a line that slipped through the edits, which is Silco's "What is truth but a survivor's story", that at the end we write our own truth with or without higher reasoning or simply driven by emotions. The next video on Jinx and Vi should comes before Christmas if I don't procrastinate, even though many has done brilliant analysis on Jinx especially, still hope to put my personal twist on it somehow.

the affection between Viktor and Jayce, this basically soulmate bond across all universes, is what makes it possible to keep the good in their hearts. it's the trust that you will always have someone who would love and accept you for who you are and that you will never be/feel alone. and isn't it what we all seek deep down? if you have this, you have hope and believe in good despite anything.

Awesome video!! The concept of choices shaping people really hit me: "Instead of fighting fate, it is how we respond to what we are given that matters---and our decisions make up our own destinies." The power that sheer will has to defy odds and shape things for ourselves is evidence of just how tied choices and free will are to change and progress. Also, the concept of how our affections define the makeup of who we are really stuck with me. When Viktor is trying relentlessly to get Jayce to understand and truly see his vision, even at the very end, this shows just how much he really cared---that innate care being evidence of his humanity persevering despite technically being "gone". The capacity to care about something beyond any semblance of reason, sequentially, defines love. Love is something tied to our soul; something ineffable and divine. Its spiritual and otherworldly, yet definitively human.
@CaveTalks9 күн бұрын
Thanks! The concept of choices make who we are is arguably the biggest component of the story as stated by Arcane co-creator, Christian Linke. It is also probably why the story feels so human, as choice and struggle are what separate us from the basic animalistic instincts, guided by emotions and affection.
@puglover-kx1wh5 күн бұрын
@CaveTalks Yes! Also, one of Arcane's writers, Amanda Overton, stated in an interview (in the context of writing characters and understanding the choices they make), "You get to put characters in a more extreme situation than we spend our everyday lives in. But you still identify with why they make those choices because it's for love, or for grief, or for guilt."

An amazing video! Thank you so much for sharing this with us all! The power of truly seeing someone for who they are and wanting to stay with them; regardless of how you view that love exactly, is why they never change course or why Mage!Viktor always saves young Jayce - they are each other’s person, and don’t WANT to not exist without the other beside them, they’re still human and selfish, and at the end of perfection was loneliness.
@LilyShimizu12 күн бұрын
I’m honestly so glad to see someone talking about Victor’s corruption by the Hexcore, it’s something so obviously taking over his mind, and yet I haven’t seen many people actually addressing this wholeheartedly, instead analyzing Victor’s choices and motivations to still be mostly his own. I knew from the moment Victor stepped out of the Hex cocoon, he was no longer truly himself. Some of his personality and morals were still there, sure, but his will was taken over by that of the Hexcore/the Arcane.
@CaveTalks12 күн бұрын
I did consider to add the point of contention that Viktor in a sense died in the explosion, at least a part of him. And the Hexcore seeped into and filled those gaps of humanity. There is also the argument that the anomaly under the Hexgate is rejecting our Viktor as it is formed by the mage version of Viktor that is not as corrupted, reflecting the self annihilating property of Arcane itself. Somehow a few points got lost in the process of scriptwriting so thank you for reminding me and liking the content!

I was excited for this one and you did not disappoint! ❤️ I don’t have friends who watch Arcane, so I never get to discuss these things with anyone, despite absolutely loving to dig deep. I’m so glad you’re sharing your thoughts. I’ll admit that a lot of the themes in this storyline is very complicated to understand, but videos like these really help. I love how you pointed out that Jayce and Viktor are the only one’s who actually touched the arcane and how it affected them differently. I also loved how you included the love between them and the obsession that follows as part of their relationship. The connection to Platon’s philosophy is really interesting, I haven’t seen that observation and connection before. Also how beautiful was the foreshadowing of what Mel said to Jayce about not facing it alone, I’ve never noticed that.

I had this thought of how Arcane breaks the satisfaction of telling narratives in a story, of how I originally felt disappointed with the ending as I had thought it reached the end of its story through deus ex machina and conveniences. I once felt that it was cheap and lazy for it to end for Mel and Ekko to pop out of nowhere to save the day, for both Isha and Jinx to sacrifice themselves just so the story of the sisters would progress and then come to an end, for Cait and Vi to make up so quickly after folding over being called cupcake, and for Jayce and Viktor having this time space loop that I had originally thought that it ends with discouraging the idea of fixing the wrongs. I had thought of how different the two seasons of Arcane were and how it wasn't satisfying for me to see the shift in scope from something grounded to something more akin to a comicbook film. However as I rewatched season 2 with other people and hearing from others of their own interpretations and analysis like this one helped me appreciate the story of Arcane as a whole, two seasons as two sides of the same machinery with cogs representing the very existential and raw depiction of humanity and time. Ultimately, the story inside Arcane is literally and metaphorically repeating with each character duo (Vander/Silco, Vi/Jinx, Victor/Jayce, Ambessa/Mel), constantly in a cycle until the ending, where the characters makes their final choices that ultimately results in breaking the cycle, or the literal time loop of Jayce and Viktor to end (which was perfectly explained how through the video). The cycles of each main character were broken off, and in turn broke the satisfaction of the conventional story where the good and bad got their perfect corresponding endings by the end (Ekko/Singed are great parallels for this, but honestly it is a disservice to characterize each one to be either good or bad). Honestly, I don't know if I made sense but this is a great analysis that got the cogs in my brain working!
@CaveTalks12 күн бұрын
It's great to see we can have conversations like this, you make perfect sense. I think much people are used to being told how to feel towards media, especially endings, but I feel the best media forces us to think and reflect uncontrollably. There is sacrifice in plot and pacing in Arcane that seems random and rushed, but as Jayce said, imperfection makes us an inseparable piece of everything, that serves the message and narrative of the series as a whole, instead of singular moments. It is ambitious and flawed, at the same time leans towards art in the sense it is strongly personal to the creators' expression, a truly passion project that takes 9 years. I will make a video with more details on Arcane as a whole after the Jinx and Vi video, (maybe after another Ekko and Caitlyn one as well:>), look forward to having more discussions!

It was seriously such a good scene and the music (catharsis) really emphasized it as well.
