Would love to come see you guys if I was in the Austin area. Having not grown up with these movies I find Han to be pretty douschy. Had I seen these as a kid I think it would have hit way different. I’m curious as to how you guys felt about Luke not taking his Yoda and Ben’s advice and going after Vader instead of finishing his training. I feel his impatience is a bit of a character flaw. Ps. My fave characters in the og trilogy are Lando, R2D2, and Chewy

I have reserved my comments for this episode. Watched all 3 with my 2 year old son. Cars 1 is the worst to me because it is the most Owen Wilson-y movie maybe in his entire catalogue. Cars 2 is the most fun and holds the most attention from my son from the very beginning. Cars 3 would be the best if it wasn’t so boring. Instead of telling the backstory of Cruz, they could have shown it. She reminded me too much of Dory. Not just the voice, but also the fish out of water that comes together right at the end. They didn’t do her justice at all, especially at the end when Mcqueen’s name comes up on the board.

Watched the full movie recently as an adult and actively disliked the movies I know my friends liked this movie when we were kids and I remember having no interest back then. This movie was remembered for the truffle shuffle amongst the group but not one that got out on at sleepovers. We went on real adventures as kids. Walking through the woods to the arcade or bowling alley, going into Hooters to get matches, terrorizing the local shopping centers by playing football in clothing store aisles and spraying all the testers before church, crawling through sewers to get places. These kids are annoying. The comedy beats just don’t land for the most part. Mama Frateley has a very strange look to her. Everything always works out for the kids. They have the perfect gadget and the perfect luck. The story of Sloth is not fleshed out much. The worst part of the movie to me is the ending. As a kid, if you find that treasure, you load up everything you can. Put on as many chains as you can. Fill those pockets. The fact they end up with pretty much nothing to keep their homes is maddening. To your point, there were no stakes. Also to your point, no chemistry. Also, Goonies never say die only makes sense when they are being chased by the bad guys. What gives them that saying prior? Did they overcome some other peril off screen?

Disney wasn't responsible for Richard Williams being booted off The Thief and The Cobbler. It was The Completion Bond Company. Miramax (then owned by Disney) got the distribution rights to the film years after Williams was sacked from it.

It was Jeffrey Katzenberg who left Disney in the 1990s (1994, not 1996), NOT Michael Eisner, and lead to Robin Williams mending bridges with Disney. Eisner didn't leave Disney until 2005.

I’m assuming you’ve read the graphic novel series. Such a masterpiece. I ordered the color edition full box set and read it so fast I returned it and now wish I didn’t. I’d love to gift it to my 16 yo daughter but can no longer find it at a reasonable price. Justin absolutely needs to take a vacation. You guys should take him to NY and record an episode from there. Syd, we forgive you for not watching the movie ahead of time. It was Steve’s fault for sure. Love the infectious laugh. I heard her say “fillum” and I distinctly remember my father working with me to properly say film when I was like 5. This took me back!

What made Reservoir Dogs so great was its all star cast…..Steve, Justin, J-Ban, and Chuy. So many moments I lol’d with you guys. Got to bring him back for sure. Adds to the natural chemistry you guys have. With regard to the movie, for a long time in the early 2000’s this was one of my favorite movies. The edginess of the anti-heroes of the movie and the classic Tarantino time bending he does to tell his stories is admirable given this was his first go at it. Had no idea this was a game (twice!) and would have loved to at least check out the top down version. That sounds like my style of game possibly.

I have binge listened to your podcast since Steve was on Movie Dumpster and have made it to this point while only skipping the Alien movies after the original Alien (don’t want to get spoilers). Punisher and Wolverine have always been my favorite heroes (Batman and Gambit not too far behind). I remember liking the movie a lot and while it doesn’t follow the beats from the comic necessarily, I still felt his grittiness and anger and it gave me the anti-hero vibes I would expect. This follows more closely than DC’s Black Adam did to that character. I need to revisit this movie to see if it still holds up. I remember liking it because it reminded me of Max Payne meets Punisher. I also remember the game being fun, but at the time I would have been playing GTA 1 and 2, Carmageddon, Godfather, Scarface, True Crime, and Quake 2. Just 5 years ago I was modding GTA V to set up bloods vs crips gang fights in the strip club. Lol. I didn’t realize Wolverine and Punisher had crossover comics. I’ll check those out for sure. I highly recommend Lady Killer if you haven’t read any of them if you want a similar style of character.

I loved hearing all the different perspectives on this, particularly with the movie. One other perspective is that this movie is a glamorized (albeit through brutal force) version of living the American dream. An immigrant comes in and seemingly within weeks has a mansion, a trophy wife, people who respect him, nice clothes, nice cars, etc. this would resonate with anyone who is first or second generation in the country, but also with anyone who was raised in a less than middle class household. It’s like “well, if he can do it, so can I”. Mafia members, gangs, drug kingpins, they are all admired by people for a reason. Obviously they are also hated by others for a reason as well. Everyone has a dream to have money and respect and command admiration, this guy friggin did it. I’m not condoning his actions. The ends certainly didn’t justify the means.

Somebody take Justin to the beach, geez. I remember watching this movie when I was 6 or 7 and I think I liked it, I didn’t remember the plot at all and I guess I just remember you wars, but maybe I’ve never seen it again since then because I knew it was bad all along? 🤷🏽♂️

Having a blast going through the Cinemarcade back catalogue! Listening to this review made me realize that I need to revisit Grease but also that I guess I like musicals also. Some recent ones I saw are Wonka and Matilda. I figured Wonka would be good, and it was, but I was really surprised at how much I enjoyed Matilda.

Oof, had no idea this movie existed. A suggestion if I could. I tend to listen to podcasts while at the gym or cooking dinner. I would suggest increasing the volume a bit. I max mine out at the gym and have trouble hearing through my headset. Same with the overhead vent while cooking. Anyway, thanks for covering these movies and games!

Great first episode! I came over from Movie Dumpster. You guys have really good chemistry. I need to revisit the movie. I loved it as a kid and loved the ride, but thankfully never played the game. I’ve seen other videos saying you needed to read the manual back in the day. The successful walkthroughs today have a good breakdown of the map and some solid tips. Sounds like it still may not be worth the playthrough. Cheers!
