I think this might be from Dec 1971 rather than '75. This is based on the Wikipedia page for the Detroit version of the United States Championship title, which indicates that Bobo Brazil held the belt in December 1971, having won it from The Sheik on July 29, 1971. Bobo would eventually lose the belt temporarily to Pampiro Firpo on August 12, 1972. This could also be from Dec 1972, since Bobo had the title again from December 23 to 30, 1972, having won it back from Pampiro Firpo. The Sheik won it from Bobo on December 30, 1972. Either way it's definitely not Dec 1975, since in December 1975 Mark Lewin held the title, having won it from Bulldog Bob Kent. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NWA_United_States_Heavyweight_Championship_(Detroit_version)

The Baron is an absolute legend. His work in WWA is legendary, with nuclear levels of heat.

In 2010, while on my way back to Winnipeg, we stopped in Bemidji, Minnesota. Other than Paul Bunyon and Babe the Ox, the Baron is legendary there. One of the best of his era. Wonderful to see him again. Thanks for the interview.

This announcer (Marlowe?) is fantastic. His low key manner and methodically explaining everything is really effective in adding reality. Did they get rid of him for Menacher? I prefer this announcer.

Could this possibly be 1965? They're promoting Race and Hennig. (I got chills just hearing them mentioned. That would be a wrestling grail. No existing footage of the original Race Hennig run exists that I know of.)I think the Dolly Sisters were broken up by 1968. Also Gene Kiniski was WWA champ in 1965. In 1968 Gene would have been NWA champ and not recognized in the WWA. Great upload. Thanks.

Bobby Heenan has a point. Closed fist punches were still considered a Foul in wrestling in those days. Menacker had no business throwing them.

The colour is very worn down. Some bits look like the trippy video effects they used to do on early colour Pop music TV shows. Are these just old tape or were they off air recordings made on some insanely rich fan's early VCR?

40:00 Piped or dubbed audio. That's an awfully loud noise for such a small crowd.
@kurtvanderbogarde8402Ай бұрын
Is this videotape rather than a kinescope? The picture looks like an interlaced video picture and there is no film damage but loads of tape damage symptoms suggesting an old much-played tape.. The only thing which looks filmy about it is the dark corners which looks like some sort of camera copying such as kinescope, in which the edge of the filmed picture is visible - unless there's another explanation for the dark corners.

To this day, the theme song - “A Banda” by Herb Alpert, is one of my favorite songs because it brings back such great memories of watching Big Time Wrestling. I’d watch it on a little black and white tv in our spare bedroom because no one else in my family wanted to watch wrestling. Bobo and the Sheik were the best

Of the wrestling personalities of the 70’s I’d put Menacker over Heenan, if Whalen was in Calgary in the 70’s him over Menacker.

There’s zero Whalen 70’s on KZbin. Menacker is the number one wrestling personality by default.

I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again, the territories that didn’t use studio wrestling for TV sure had it good.

I have a poster with Cowboy Bob Ellis you’ve probably never seen. There are several lady wrestlers, and a few midget wrestlers, as well as Logger Larson and a few others on the poster. The ladies seemed to have been completely forgotten. Tess Anderson, Dorothy Malone, Little Donna. I know for a fact where Tess Anderson is right now. She’s living in Somerville, Tennessee. I know because she’s my mother.
