Do you know who makes a 15" rod for Alvey nowadays? I cant find any make over 13"
@alveyanglersaustralia3 ай бұрын
Pretty sure the closest you are going to get to 15ft is 14ft 10inch in a Gary Howard Bulldog

@@alveyanglersaustralia thanks for the reply. I did see that seems to be the only rod but im worried it won't handle heavy sinkers as its a slow action. Fishing light is much preferred but where I fish can get very tidal and requires heavy sinkers or the line gets washed into rocks. Also I will use 55lb Schneider as its tough rock fishing.

🎣 Hi Brett, - Greetings from South Africa, Thank You Very much indeed for your Alvey related videos. I have also been using Alvey reels over the years. I always trim the tail fin off any whole pilchard or off a tail bait fillet. This reduces bait spin during the cast too and in the water. I like the third method you show with a swivel attached to the top hook, for the hook trace line, 🎣

Nice. I recently bought and Alvey 65 Stealth. I fish the North Carolina Outer Banks and the rods that Alvey make won't work throwing 6-8 oz sinkers so I had a rod builder modify one of my 12' rods by lowering the seat. I should have it back next week and will spool it up according to your instructions.

i know this isn't really the place to have a whinge about it but i find it confusing that alvey USA has certain models such as the 55gd,50c and 65c which aren't/are no longer available in australia. they also have access to wider range of rockhopper style reels and a wider range of colours for reels. you would be forgiven for thinking this could be because the reels are outsourced, but no! those models are still made in australia
@alveyanglersaustralia316 Жыл бұрын
I asked around 2 years ago and was told it was because they were models that weren't very big sellers here in Australia. Alvey US is actually a distributor over there who buys the reels and on sells them so Alvey here just can't send them back.

I cut the elasticised cuff off an old sock and use that as a line retainer. Fits a 6" Alvey fine and will go on a 6.5" Alvey, it needs a bit of work the first few times until it stretches and becomes an easy fit.

Just one question. Why so much line for Alvey reels?
@alveyanglersaustralia3163 жыл бұрын
Mainly for maximising casting distance.

Those spool thing-a-ma-bobs look the ducks guts, might invest in one of those. 20 bucks well spent. I’m not your grandfather, but I’ll give you a tip that will save you a heap of cash: Don’t spool your Alveys up with 500, 600, 700 or 800 metres of top quality fishing line (Schneider or Tortue is the best for Alveys). Put 3 or 400 metres (whatever) of el’cheapo line, like Jarvis Walker ($6 from Woolies) on the reel first, then about 2-300 metres (max) of the top quality stuff, that’s all ya need
@alveyanglersaustralia3163 жыл бұрын
I used to do that but these days I am fully sponsored for line by Platypus so I just fill it up with the good stuff.
@ianbertenshaw43503 жыл бұрын
Should put the line retainer idea to Alvey, you can use an Alvey rod wrap to do the same but a dedicated product would be nice !
