They have narrated from Abu Ja‘far Muhammad ibn Ali ibn al-Husain, peace be upon them, that he said to one of his companions: “Congratulations on this name!” He said: “Which name, may I be sacrificed for you?” He said: “Shia.” He said: “People reproach us because of this name.” He said: “Have you not heard that Allah Almighty said: «وَإِنَّ مِنْ شِيعَتِهِ لَإِبْرَاهِيم»; ‘And indeed, one of his Shias was Ibrahim,’ and said: «فَاسْتَغَاثَهُ الَّذِي مِنْ شِيعَتِهِ عَلَى الَّذِي مِنْ عَدُوِّهِ»; ‘Then the one from among his Shias asked him for help against the one who was among his enemies’? So congratulations on this name.” (Tafsir al-Qomi, vol. 2, p. 223) Is this narration authentic? We have a mola and he is looking after us! Wonderful! History of shias is full of oppression and standing up for justice! Our imams were our supreme examples. I’m a Shia from India/pakistan and I feel a great kinship with our brothers in Lebanon , Gaza and Iran

My closest friends in Gaza are still in shock; a new daughter, a 3 year old son and when they can video call they are sitting in the sand in the dark. The moon over their heads. And they cannot believe it. But outside contact is all that keeps them from feeling alone. I am not Muslim. I am a single mother, I work for low wages in the US and I have always lived in poverty without remorse. 75% of all of my income goes to families in Gaza, friends who are trapped in Egypt unable to reach their families, and Yemen (God bless them all). Everyone needs to look around themselves and see their excess. Name brand foods, subscriptions, makeup, gasoline. All of these are at a cost. And removing them from our lives creates extra support to give to survivors and those who resist. Just so they can live. I do not give myself or my child what I cannot first share with them. I pray that more live considerately in this manner, and take all actions they can. Joy breeds resistance, trauma creates actions. We can all do so much more ☝️ God willing everyone who watches this can find an action to take for justice.
