Why is it that everyone who owns a surface grinder refuses to help people out who don't? Ive been begging everyone to take on the simple job of thinning out 6 jointer blades. And its not like Im asking for free work, Im willing to pay for the service but it seems that surface grinder owners are unwilling to help.

Hi, By the looks of it that precision level does not have adjustment screws. How is the adjustment performed on this model? Thank you!

Love my wife, but usually I go out to the shop to get away from her and everyone else lol 😆 But She would not be very enthusiastic about ANYTHING I made on any of my machines. However, she does come out and hangs out with me as I’m out there playing with my machines (big kid legos) 😊 We are very blessed to have such a supportive companion!

I know this is kinda late and I’ve been thinking about it for a while. I think they Used induction heating to heat up just the thread portion of the rod as it was being quenched kind of a rapid process. Thereby ensuring a Hardened acme thread With very Run out…. Just a thought it’s late and my head hurts👍😹

As a standard fabricator and not a machinist I'm appalled at how your drafts are all neat and have straight lines and aren't drawn on the side of a piece of random cardboard you found in the trash. Bravo. :D

Had one about 65 years ago - made from wood - for drawing. The Z axis is a tad disappointing. Wonder if it is practical to modify so that depth cutting does not cause incline on the cutter. Really nice video - thank you.

Hey there, great video! Would you be able to comment on the pros or cons of using metric vs imperial when it comes to machining? Thank you,

Just letting you know, you could have tempered the centre after quenching with the oxy torch. You polish the surface to be tempered and then locally heat with the oxy and you should see surface colours draw across the surface. The colour corresponda with a tempering temp. Straw at 200-210 degC then dark straw then purple at approx 280-degC to blue and then dull grey.

could you try to surface harden it?? i have forgotten the procedures but you can nitrite harden things (basically putting a hot object in hi nitrogen fertilizer) and some other forms of surface hardening . might make it last a little longer ?!? but is it worth the trouble ??? ONLY You can know . Have fun making great content for us

Your O2 can't harden corectly in vegetable oil. You need fast quench oil like Parks50 or water (but this one is risky !)

Personally I would have suggested using a better quality tool steel for the lead screw something like EN19/EN24/P20 etc and not flame hardened it to avoid it distorting,,,, but what do I know 😂😂

there are ways to remove the warping from that piece after heat treating almost fully. youll likely need a manual screw press tho (or be verry carefull with your hydraulic one and see if you can bend it the other way just enough to be more or less straight. might wanna heat that back up to 250°C afterwards to get the added tension out and you should have a mostly straight piece

If you're going to ruin lots of gear cutters, you best have a gear cutter maker. Such a funny way to see another video come into play.

try H13 (1.2344 - X40CrMoV5-1), my teacher will probably recomend that, he was making scrapper mashines in school and that steel is not only very stable dimensionaly in heat treatment, it can be cryo-trated after final cut, also if 16 year old was able to made good screw with that it means its idiot-proof steel

I am **impressed**!!! I couldn't tell you how many times I've wondered how the heck those socket heads are made, other than maybe forging them when the bolt is headed! I've NEVER seen anyone else even hint at the tooling! Thank you for finally lifting the veil on my ignorance! Also, just for the record, I'm absolutely jealous of the ease at which you guys on YT manage to make running a parting tool look so easy! In the couple of years I had my Logan, I never once figured out how to successfully set one up and get a cutoff! I always had to resort to a hacksaw or occasionally a Dremel to free my workpieces!

I’m glad it worked out in the end. I probably would’ve went with A2 tool steel the air hardening properties would keep it more dimensionally stable. The reason you probably didn’t see the O1 harden is because of a thin layer of decarb. Also those Rockwell files are horribly inaccurate.
