I'm prefering Jack Gibbons' performance (kzbin.info/www/bejne/pWq7namvipaMqKs). Hamelin is rushing. Gibbons slows it down a few % and it really pays off.

This recording remastered would be so perfect. His studio recording of the Concerto is one of the best I've heard, but this is so much more bombastic, unrestrained, and that concert hall voicing is phenomenal.

I really don't aspire to play mechanically, corlorless and with hidden polyphony. Nosrati is way more musical playing Alkan. He also makes breaks into different section... Probably to save energy But these breaks are annoying. Music needs to flow

Could you tell me where please which concert hall this is, I'd love to know. I saw his last UK performance of Alkan's concerto for solo piano in Cheltenham just before the Hyperion release, it was one of the greatest concerts I've ever been to. Hamelin is undoubtedly, one of the very greatest pianists in history.

THAT IS WONDERFUL.. However, I think this performance has been done in a bit overly-accelerated tempo, albeit overwhelmingly thrilling to watch. I absolutely loved his CD recording of this piece, but, because of the tempo and sound quality maybe, I could not enjoy 100% of Hamelin's performance... Still, that he could play this technically terrifying piece in such a tempo makes us totally excited!

I mainly appreciate this video for the fact that we can see Hamelin’s unrelenting and diabolical technique in a live setting. He’s a whole different beast in a live concert, compared to a studio recording.
