This reminds me of Jeremiah 29:11. Probably one y'all touch in another talk...haven't watched the other 2 yet. Any way. The Israelite were in exile. Paul was in prison. It's learning to find contentment and continue on with life in the midst of what feels like the WORST time of your life.

So, let's just let the scriptures speak... I was reading Romans 8:28-30 today, and when I came to the word "called," I was curious about what that thought entailed, so I did a word search, and I was overwhelmed by the grace of God - let God's call be the lens through which we view this issue. Romans 8:28-30 - And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose. For those whom He foreknew, He also predestined to become conformed to the image of His Son, so that He would be the firstborn among many brethren; and these whom He predestined, He also called; and these whom He called, He also justified; and these whom He justified, He also glorified. 1. God draws for salvation those whom He has loved in eternity (Jeremiah 31:3, Psalm 25:6, 2 Timothy 1:8-9, Ephesians 1:4, 2 Thessalonians 2:13) 2. God sets individuals apart from the womb and calls them through His grace (Galatians 1:6, 1:15, Isaiah 49:1, 5, Jeremiah 1:5) 3. God calls individuals through the gospel (2 Thessalonians 2:14) 4. God calls individuals into fellowship with Jesus (1 Corinthians 1:9, 2 Thessalonians 2:14) 5. No one can come into fellowship with Jesus unless the Father draws him (John 6:44, 65) 6. God’s calling is according to His purpose (Acts 9:15, Romans 1:1, 8:28, 2 Timothy 1:9, John 1:12-13) 7. God’s calling through the gospel produces faith (Acts 13:48, 16:14, Ephesians 2:8, 1 John 5:1) 8. Those who are called are “a chosen race,” “a royal priesthood,” “a holy nation,” “a people for God’s own possession” (1 Peter 2:9) 9. Those whom God calls receive the promise of the eternal inheritance (Hebrews 9:15, 1 Peter 3:9) 10. God calls from both Jews and Gentiles (Romans 9:24, John 12:32, Revelation 5:9) 11. God’s calling, and the gifts associated with it are irrevocable (Romans 11:29, John 6:39)

I noticed Calvinists often avoid talking about those God has unilaterally hated before they were born and did anything good or bad.

@@gk.4102 If you have a problem with anything that I wrote, then your problem isn't with Calvin, it's with God.

@@lawrencestanley8989 Nah... just an observation I made.
@lawrencestanley89893 жыл бұрын
@@gk.4102 Well, I cannot answer for everyone, but the reason that I did not mention reprobation is simply because I was conducting a word search for "call." To talk about reprobation in that context would be a bit of a non-sequitur. If you wish to see a rather full discussion on the topic however, see Calvin's "Institutes," 3.23.1 through 3.24. He will walk you through some of the relevant scriptures, as it is, I do not have the time at the moment.

@@gk.4102 OK, I have a few minutes in between meetings at work, so I thought I'd share this quick reference. Matthew 15:13-14 - But He answered and said, “Every plant which My heavenly Father did not plant shall be uprooted. Let them alone; they are blind guides of the blind. And if a blind man guides a blind man, both will fall into a pit.” Reprobation is not an active effort of God, as though He were active in the lives of the non-elect to make them evil, forcing them to do evil deeds and to think evil thoughts. No, Reprobation is simply the restraint of God’s saving grace upon vessels that He has not prepared beforehand for glory. “Let them alone;” reprobation is God’s abandonment.
