Hi. Unfortunately I’ve put it offline as i was working on a new course - a much more in-depth course. The previous course was needed to get an update imo. Hope to include more on logo grids in my new course as well. Already started scripting and soon filming as well. Thanks!

I wish the ones who knew what they were doing dedicated more time to KZbin. I was literally crying a few minutes ago because I was frustrated with my career. I had a long hiatus because of my health and I’m ready to get back on the proverbial horse again. The hard part is that I lost a lot of my hard skills (construction and technique), but I never lost my visual sensitivity. You need both to align to design great logos. So I can see something doesn’t look right in my work and I give up to frustration. What I find are premium courses I can’t pay for right now because I’m unemployed and people on KZbin pretending to be experts and passing down bad techniques or hollow information. Understandably, if I were this good I would put my content behind a paywall, but then there are videos like yours that give just enough away to be extremely valuable. And because you have exceptional technique, it’s trustworthy. This is the kind of content I want on KZbin. It’s been two years since your last upload. You’re probably extremely busy, but if you read this, I’m having a terrible time figuring out the correct proportions for the size relationship between a symbol and its typographic name, especially on a logo that stacks (symbol on top, name below). And how do you balance a logo that has both forms, the horizontal format and vertical format so that both look proportionate to each other in size.

I feel most of these grids are created afterwards, more for making a fancy looking image. Most times you just need to find a balance with the spacing of the logomark and logotype. Doing the design process with all these overlays, I find way to destructive. Takes away from the creation process. Near the end you can use some sort of grid, but you never be able to align everything unless it's 100% symmetrical

Thank you for your comment and points of feedback. Most of the times, I create my logo symbols directly in a logo grid. Therefore, adjusting these grids to fit together with the typography makes a lot of sense too. Eventually, you want to adjust these grids optically and not only technically. Therefore it's always a different approach on every unique design. I created these template as guidance, how I approach my logo lockups. This should be open for adjustments on your own preference and technical opinions.

Tell me what I got wrong. You designed logo according to document grid not logo grid. In other videos they make logo grid and join shapes with shape builder tool. Here you made logo and then you draw logo grid around it. Isn't that reverse process? Great logos but I would like an answer from you or anyone that is familiar with logo designing. I'm trying to learn about this. Would appreciate help.
@jeroendesign Жыл бұрын
I mix up the approach on this actually. As it also depends on the logo you have envisioned to create. Some use the shape builder tool and some don’t (I don’t). It’s a matter of experiences and preference to make these grids. Sometimes I start a logo from a grid, and sometimes I create grids once a design is made. For technical guidance.

The process of gandlig all these logos must be a massive undertaking. How do you guess filter out all the "not so" good onces and the once you keep?
@jeroendesign Жыл бұрын
Honestly, it's always a guess to have your work selected. I had years where I only got a few in, and some years I got many in. Perhaps I may have a more high-profile portfolio (it gets seen a lot as I have a big Instagram account), and some of the jury members may notice and recognize these designs (I hope). The way I had to vote was to score a large list of entries and select some of my personal favorites to highlight those in the book too. I imagine some sort of selections where made before I got handed over a large list as each year there are over 200k of entries to go through.

I've helped create a free version of a logo packer. It is called Logo Packer. It can do about 90% what this extension van do. If people are interested let me know. This tool is such a huge time saver. The logo file type creation can easily take 2-3 hours. Now it's done within 5 or so

@jeroendesign Жыл бұрын
Hello. sorry for my late reply - I am not super active here lately. Truth is, you need to learn the basics of illustrator about making and using grids. Then you can tweak and adjust these grids to help you 'guide' to perfect balance your logo outcome.

@jeroendesign Жыл бұрын
Hello, yes, grids are only for technical guidance. I use grids to finetune my designs. It shouldn’t start from a grid, unless you want to make something super technical or abstract. I sometimes start with a grid as well. So basically, there are more ways to look at this.

Hello there... Thank you so much for your easy and creative tutorials. I have a question about the designing process. Would you follow the Golden Ratio when you measure a circle in the gride to draw a design? Recently I have started to view your tutorials. It's nice and helpful. Just keep it up!! Best of luck 👍

I usually create a logo in a random grid first. Once happy, I rebuild the design (if needed) in a more minimal and logical grid size. All to help minimize the design and simplify corners and details.
