For this coming ‘24/25 season, would you recommend arriving two weeks before Chinese new year (early- to mid- January), or two weeks after Chinese new year (mid-February). This would be our first ever trip to Hokkaido to ski, and we’re trying to maximize snow potential while minimizing crowds. Cheers!
@nisekopowdersecrets8447Ай бұрын
Early to mid-January and mid-February are two of the best times to visit Niseko. Usually, there are more powder dumps early to mid-January than in mid-February. On the other hand, the peak gate opening is more consistent in February. If it was my choice, I'd go for early to mid-January.

This video was absolutely amazing. Great detail. Will be looking forward to riding a few of these. It doesn't feel like gear is necessary for some/most of these runs. Any insight into that subject would be cool.

Thanks. I always carry avvy gear when I go to the peak, or out any gate in general.

Any tips for going solo to the peak and riding powder all day? Avi dangers? Bad treewells?
@nisekopowdersecrets84472 ай бұрын
I've gone solo many times. Many others do too. Just be aware of the risks. Visibility can be a big issue if you're not familiar with the surroundings. No tree wells in Niseko.

is it still good if im going in march?
@nisekopowdersecrets84472 ай бұрын
First week of March can be good. The rest of March is a hit or miss. Was great in 2022, crap in 2023, and amazing in 2024.

This is by far the best info on backcountry skiing at Niseko which is what most of us flying in care the most about. Could you do more video like this on more resorts, may be even ones not in Hokkaido? I heard while Hokkaido have the best pow, it is mellower compare to central japan. Is that true? Are there any resort backcountry/side country skiing skiing there too?

I was there then - weird week. Some great powder, but also huge queues, ice, crust and too warm. Loved carving at speed up and down the gondola until 7pm every day… magic memories.

I was just there but didn’t make the hike. How long does it take to get back to the top for your second run? Thanks for making these videos 🤙🏽
@nisekopowdersecrets84477 ай бұрын
One to two hours depending on where you go down and end up at the bottom. If you stick to East Face and Higashione, you might be able to do 3 runs before G3 closes at 13:30, maybe even 4 runs if you're strong.

I'm 34 years in Japan and professional guide in Japan 25 years, Nisseko rules are the most unfair and nonsense rules, when gates are open everyone is going out BC without any equipment, when gates closed are closed for everyone even professional guides whos working field is on the mountains but SKI RESORT PATROL is controlling to go outside the gate, outside the ski resort which isn't their field and they are not qualified for rescue operation performance which they charge. On other hand all promotion videos are shown are outside the gates which are 75% of the time CLOSED. Ski resort is charging all mountain ski passes on bad days too, when its clear the weather is nasty and gates will remine closed ! Cveto/guide

this is why I prefer to ski in Europe over the USA and japan , you have true freedom, you make your decision and live or die with the consequences that's the way it should be. Your give information and then make your decisions, not these rules let people make their mistakes. and people should make sure to their abilities
